Activate Q3 Categories and Check If You Are Targeted to Earn 5% at Amazon

Amazon has published the 5% bonus categories for the third and fourth quarters on this year, but there’s also a targeted offer that’s showing up for some on their account.

Q3 and Q4 5% Categories

For Q3, the only 5% Cashback Bonus category is Restaurants. You will earn 5% cashback on restaurant purchases from 7/1/17 (or the date on which you activate 5%, whichever is later) through 9/30/17. You can already activate it.

For Q4 it gets better.  The 5% Cashback Bonus categories will include Amazon and more. I guess Discover will clarify the other categories later.

Targeted 5% at Amazon Offer for Q3

While most people will have to wait until the fourth quarter to start earning 5% at Amazon, some people are seeing a targeted offer to earn 5% on Amazon purchases on the third quarter as well. This offer looks like it give you another $1,500 allocation to spend on Amazon only, besides the 5% you earn on $1,500 on Restaurants.

The Offer

Activate to earn 5% Cashback Bonus at Amazon.com from 7/1/17 (or the date on which you activate 5%, whichever is later) through 9/30/17, on up to $1,500 in purchases.

Amazon.com purchases include those made through the Amazon.com checkout, including digital downloads, Amazon.com gift cards, Amazon Fresh orders, Amazon Local Deals and Amazon Prime subscriptions and items sold by third party merchants through Amazon.com ‘s marketplace.

Conclusion

5% at Amazon is a great discount and it gets even better if you have the double cash back promo which would make it 10% back. If you were targeted for the offer mentioned above, you can can spend $1,500 this quarter and $1,500 more next quarter at Amazon and earn the bonus rate. Check your Discover accounts and check under recent transaction for the targeted offer.

As a reminder, this quarter you earn 5% at Home Improvement Stores and Wholesale Clubs.

Also keep in mind to go through cash back portals that pay out on some categories on Amazon, or through your JetBlue account to earn 3x TrueBlue points on all purchases.
