eBay Gift Card Deal Roundup & Analysis

It has been awhile since we have seen any decent gift cards deals on eBay. As we approach the holidays I am sure the deals will heat up and fortunately today there are a couple of decent ones. Let’s take a look!

$200 Staples eGift Card for $170 – Limit 2

ebay staples sears gift card deal

  • Cost as percentage of face value: 85%
  • Resale options: 84% to Cardpool

If you purchase these cards and then sell them to Cardpool, you would lose $2 per card, but you would gain the following in rewards:

  • 2% eBay Bucks: $3.40
  • 2% through a portal: $3.40
  • 5X Ultimate Rewards with Chase Ink: 850 points
Analysis

For me, eBay Bucks are as good as cash since I shop enough on eBay that I use them all of the time. If I go through a portal at 2% I will thus make a profit of $4.80 and 850 Ultimate Rewards points after factoring in everything!

$100 Sears Gift Card for $85 – Limit 2

  • Cost as percentage of face value: 85%
  • Resale options: 84.5% SaveYa

On this one, you lose $.50 as part of the resale, but gain the following rewards:

  • 2% eBay Bucks: $1.70
  • 2% through a portal: $1.70
  • Credit card rewards: Varies
Analysis

Since these cards are sold by GiftCardMall and not Paypal Digital Gifts, you won’t get 5X with Chase Ink. You could purchase eBay gift cards from Paypal Digital Gifts and earn 5X and then use those for the Sears gift cards though. Either way, you do make a small profit before your credit card rewards are considered, so you come out ahead.

Skype Deal

Paypal Digital Gifts is also selling a $50 Skype eGift card for $35 with a limit of 5. I am not award of a resale potential for these cards, so they will most likely be for personal use. With that said, you should still earn 2% eBay Bucks, 2% from a portal and 5X with Chase Ink.

eBay Bucks Promo?

eBay normally runs their 3X, 4X and 5X eBay Bucks promotions midweek, so I suppose there is a chance that we could see one tomorrow. With that said, these deals usually sell pretty quickly, so it is a gamble to wait to see if they will still be there if/when the next promo comes. I am a little torn on whether to wait or not, but will probably see how well the cards sell throughout the day.

Conclusion

These aren’t the biggest deals we have seen and I certainly wish there was an eBay Bucks promotion, but the Sears and Staples cards can both be sold digitally without too much hassle at all. For that reason it is probably a deal I will take advantage of, since I am always looking at ways to generate points at a negative cost.

  1. How do you get 5X ultimate rewards points? Doesn’t make sense as you are not buying the cards through an office supply store.

  2. Wonder if maybe better to use the airlines portals like United or AA to earn the extra holiday shopping miles than a 2% CB portal? Also, if paying with EBay GC will still be qualified for the bonus? TIA
