More Problems from Expedia’s Sale – Some Reservations Are Being Cancelled Without Notification

More Issues With Expedia Deal

Last week I covered the saga of Expedia’s $100-$200 hotel discount coupon drama. Basically the company released a set of coupon codes to the public and then later claimed that you needed to use a Discover card in order to be eligible.

Unfortunately the original set of terms never mentioned Discover, so this left a lot of people upset. While I am sure it was a genuine error made by Expedia, they didn’t handle it properly. Instead of honoring their mistake, the company began cancelling people’s bookings because they didn’t comply with the “new terms”.

As the cancellations rolled in, many people called the company and were able to get some sort of compensation. Some reported a $100 credit while others were able to get the full $200 credit applied to their account. You can find out more info about that here.

Does Your Booking Look Untouched?

Many people have also emailed and commented saying that their reservations still looks in tact. Secret Flying is reporting that some of these people have had their reservations secretly cancelled without any correspondence from Expedia.

At this point I highly recommend anyone who has a booking from this deal login or call Expedia. Even if the company hasn’t contacted you, they may have cancelled your reservation. There is nothing worse than showing up at a hotel thinking you have a reservation when you don’t.

Conclusion

Expedia has handled this situation very poorly and unfortunately this is just another lesson as to why consumers need to be proactive. Don’t rely on huge companies to do the right thing or to always notify you. Thousands of people used that code and the only person who can ensure your travel plans are correct is you! Safe travels!

    You’re right, I logged into my Expedia account and saw my booking for 4 nights has been canceled, no notification or email at all. This is so unprofessional of them and unacceptable.
    What can we do now?

  2. Last week, one of my reservations was cancelled by Expedia and I was notified about the cancellation. I called and a supervisor was able to apply a $200 coupon code to a new reservation, which actually saved me money since the originally coupon was only the $150 code.

    Yesterday, I looked on my credit card statement and noticed a $205.00 credit from Expedia. I went on the website and low and behold, my other reservation had been cancelled. I was NOT notified at all by Expedia, which was super frustrating. In addition, the hotel had a $25 cancel fee which I was charged because Expedia cancelled my reservation. I called Expedia and explained my situation and a supervisor was able to rebook me at the same rate and did refund the $25 cancel fee.

    I’m glad that Expedia did make things right. However, canceling a hotel room without notice is unacceptable and not right.
