$25 Off Of $25 With Citi Wallet
Citi is offering a $25 credit with a $25 purchase when you use Citi Wallet and pay with a consumer Mastercard. In this post I will analyze the deal, detail how to register for Citi Wallet and show you which merchants you can shop at to get the best deal.
The Deal
Citi is offering a $25 statement credit when spending $25 or more when paying with Citi Wallet. To get the credit, you must use Masterpass and pay with your Citi Wallet. Here are the terms:
* You will receive a one time statement credit after you make your first purchase of $25 or more and checkout using Citi Wallet with a Citi branded consumer MasterCard by 09/14/14. In order to qualify for this offer, the account must be open and current at the time the statement credit is applied. If your account is closed for any reason, including if you convert to another Citi product, you may no longer be eligible for this offer. Statement credit will be applied within 2 billing cycles.
Which Stores Are Available
After registering your Citi Wallet, you will find a link to a complete list of stores which work with the service. (Unfortunately you must be logged in to see this list.) Among the stores which are of most interest to me are the ones which sell gift cards.
On the list there are a ton of merchants that you have probably never heard of along with some larger ones like Tiger Direct, J Crew, Living Social and others. Unfortunately none of those merchants sell gift cards other than their own.
Thankfully there is one merchant on the list who does! Newegg sells quite a few merchant gift cards in $25 denominations. Many of them are e-gift cards which means that you will not have to be shipping. If you want a physical gift card then Newegg will charge $1.99 to ship it.
Here is a sampling of $25 merchant gift cards sold by Newegg: Land’s End, JC Penney, Microsoft, Champs, Landry’s, Regal Cinemas, Gap, CVS, Cabela’s, Aeropostale, Groupon, AMC, Kmart, Footlocker, Dominos, Applebees, Bath & Body Works, Buca di Beppo, Bass Pro Shops, Chilis, Timberlands & many many more.
How To Register
To register, visit the Citi Wallet website and click the big green “Login to get started” button. You will now be asked to login to your Citi credit card account. After entering in your credentials, you must scroll through the terms and conditions and then check the box that you agree. When this is completed hit “Continue”. (Note: If you have more than one Citi login, I don’t see why you couldn’t participate in this offer multiple times.)
The next screen lists all of your Citi credit cards and asks you to select which ones should be added to Citi Wallet. Make sure you add a Mastercard and not a Visa or American Express card since they will not work with this promotion. Also, make sure to have the card you are adding close by, since it will request the three digit security code.
Once you have confirmed the card, they will then request to either call or text you an identification code using the phone number on your account. I opted to receive a text and it came instantaneously. After entering in the confirmation code, you will see a confirmation screen showing the card that you have now linked to your Citi Wallet.
How To Pay
While each merchant is different, I will show you how to pay with Citi Wallet at Newegg. First, go to your shopping cart and scroll to the bottom. Click the “Buy With Masterpass” button.
It will process for a few seconds and bring you to the page that says, “Select Your Wallet”. Click on the Citi Wallet banner. You will now be prompted to login to your Citi account. Once logged in, you should see the card that you previously linked. (If you have more than one card enrolled then select the one you want to use.) After ensuring you are using the correct card, click “Checkout”.
You will now be brought back to Newegg and prompted to login to your Newegg account or to create new one. After logging in or entering in your new account information, you will eventually come to the final confirmation screen. You will notice the payment method is Masterpass and the last four digits of your credit card number are showing. If everything is correct accept the terms and conditions and click “Place Order”.
After submitting the order, it will process for up to 30 seconds while the transaction is run through Masterpass. Eventually you should be brought back to the Newegg site and see an order confirmation. You are done. Congratulations!
Conclusion
Free money is free money and this is a rather simple way to earn it. While I went into great detail in this post, in reality the process of registering for Citi Wallet & buying a gift card at Newegg takes less than 10 minutes beginning to end. This is definitely worth doing in my opinion.
What do you think? Have you found a better way to maximize the promotion? Let me know!

Unfortunately it appears that their are reports (I saw on SlickDeals) that Citi has changed the terms of this promo to now say “first 4000 people” …
I just said the same thing like 40 mins ago
My bad. Feel free to delete, Shawn. Sorry.
no worries man, im just bummed about the 4k thing
The fineprint says its only for the first 4000 people, and they added that later because when this promo first came out, it did not mention this, we have the PDG to prove it, so it’s a typical bait and switch, for shame Citi, they see how popular it gets and they end it prematurely when this was supposed to go until September, didn’t even make it 3 days because I GUARANTEE you 4,000 people have already taken advantage of this deal (check a forum called slickdeals, they cought wind of it)
Wow. That is horrible. Even when I posted this the terms and conditions didn’t say that. What a horrible move on Citi’s part.
Yea, the forums are all up in arms about it, it’s just bad practice of Citi to do that, and it just makes them look bad when trying to startup their wallet service…This JUST started but i bet you its over
Good deal! Thanks for posting!
