Gift Card Reselling: Sourcing Amazon Gold Box Deals
We have been posting often about Amazon’s Gold Box gift card deals. They tend to go in spurts where Amazon will have a couple of deals each day for a week or so. A majority of these deals tend to be around break even for some re-sellers. With some stacking you can make them profitable. The best part is that you are able to do it from your couch!
Stacking the Deals
The great thing about Amazon is that it let’s you purchase 3rd party gift cards with Amazon gift cards. You can not purchase Amazon gift cards with other Amazon gift cards, or anything that has an Amazon gift card in the deal. I learned that the hard way when Amazon had a deal on an Xbox One that came with a $50 Amazon gift card :(. But since you can use Amazon gift cards on third party gift cards this opens these deals up for stacking.
I source Amazon gift cards at a discount whenever I get a chance and will sit on them for a few weeks until the time comes where I can turn them into an easy profit. Some recent deals where this has been possible is:
- Staples & Lowes 10% back Amex Offer – both stores sell Amazon gift cards
- Chase Hyatt Offers – Lowe’s had a $10 back on a $50 purchase
- Lowe’s Amex Offer – $10 off of a $50 purchase
- They even sometimes have Amazon Amex Offers
You can even use the Visa Gift cards you get from one of the negative cost Office Depot deals etc. to make the purchase. As a last resort you can purchase an Amazon gift card using the Swych hack and get 5X Ultimate Rewards with your Chase Ink Cash card.
As you can see you should be able to get Amazon gift cards at an average of 10% off if you plan ahead. With the discounted Amazon cards in hand we can start making some money on these deals.
Example & Figures:
Yesterday there was a GAP gift card sale $50 for $40. By using an Amazon gift card that I sourced at 10% off I am able to get the cost of the $50 GAP gift card down to $36, or at 72% of face value.
If you are a bulk reseller with Raise, SaveYa etc. or are a member of GCW you should be able to get 80% or above for these. That is a profit of $4 per card.
These are limited to one deal per person but there is usually one or two worthy deals per day. Today Petco and Regal have decent offers. If you have a significant other you can also order on their account, even if they are not an Amazon Prime Member. The deals open up to all Amazon accounts after 30 minutes.
You can stack these deals even further by choosing to “no rush” ship it and you will get a $1 digital media credit or maybe one of their awesome new offers. I usually use the $1 digital credit to download a movie before flights on my dirt cheap Fire tablet. Depending on what you value those credits at you can add them into your profit calculations.
Conclusion
As you can see these deals can be lucrative when you stack them. They are also great for personal use.
While the Amazon Gift card deals are not scalable they are a nice side deal that takes little to no effort to accomplish. They also help me make my Amex Offers extremely profitable!
Do you participate in the Amazon Gift Card sales? If not are you considering it now?

Excellent post, Mark. I had been liquidating most of my surplus Amazon cards via TPM, yet you’ve further reminded us of how these “gold box” gc deals can be not just a replacement for TPM, but actually far better…. Will make a point to listen/watch more closely to your posts/tweets & such. 🙂
Thanks for the kind words – glad you enjoyed!
That Chase Hyatt offer did not work for me when buying a gift card at Lowe’s. Been over a month.

So what’s the best way of getting notified about these deals? Do you have some system for getting notified when they go live?
If you follow us on twitter or subscribe to our emails etc. we usually post 30 mins or so before they go live. I manually check each day for the deals 🙂
I have a question. How many gift cards to you have to sell in a month to be eligible to be a bulk seller with one of these companies? I have a Chase Ink Cash card now so it seems appealing. But I don’t know if they’ll take me.
A lot depends on who you are going with. Most gift card reselling sites have bulk seller relationships that you can apply for but I think in the 3-5K range per month will get you in some places. You can always contact them via email for more details as well.
