Google Pay Update Brings Offers, Payments Options and Banking

Google Pay has updated its app for both Android and iOS. The update brings an array of new features and also a previously announced banking option for customers.

The new app can help you seamlessly complete daily financial tasks such as requesting money from a friend, checking how much you spent on groceries last month or activating offers at popular brands.

The app has several new tabs: “Pay,” which includes peer-to-peer payments as well as your transaction history using tap-to-pay; “Explore,” which will be a place where Google will offer deals and discounts; and finally, “Insights,” which will allow you to connect your bank accounts to get a searchable overview of your finances.

Google Plex Accounts

The tech giant will let users open bank accounts, both checking and savings. Google says its “Plex” checking and savings accounts have no monthly fees, overdraft charges or minimum balance requirements. Users can also request a physical debit card, which will run on Mastercard’s network. Users can link to Google photos to search receipts and link Gmail to see bills and subscriptions for money management. You can also get rewards and offers based on their transaction information.

While Plex Accounts aren’t available yet, you can join the waitlist within the Google Pay app to be one of the first to apply for a Plex Account from Citi or Stanford Federal Credit Union (SFCU) sometime in early 2021.
