Hawaii Considers Bringing Back COVID-19 Travel Restrictions
As many other states around the country, Hawaii is experiencing a surge in new coronavirus infections. If the situation continues to worsen, it could bring back tougher COVID-19 restrictions for visitors.
Lt. Gov. Josh Green said officials are watching closely the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, and if conditions worsen could take action. Sunday was a new one-day high of 893 cases in Hawaii. That’s relatively low, when compared to other states, but Hawaii is not well equipped to handle large numbers of hospitalizations. 392 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals on Sunday, Star Advertiser reports.
Green said that if restrictions are implemented, they would come with at least a two-week warning. He said that “travel pre-testing may be challenged legally” since Hawaii is the only state to have successfully done it, and vaccination status is the standard promoted by the CDC. He said other interventions are more likely, such as having people show vaccination cards to get into gyms, restaurants and other public places.
“We peaked at 318 last year,” Green said. “I’ve cautioned the governor and the mayors that if our numbers go much higher, we are going to lose some citizens to COVID that should be able to get care.”
Gov. David Ige signed an executive order earlier this month that limits social gatherings to no more than 10 people indoors and no more than 25 outdoors. Patrons in restaurants bars and social establishments must also remain seated with parties maintaining at least 6 ft distancing between groups.

And yet today, Aug 26, I receive an email from Hawaiian Airlines offering me a good deal on fares this fall. Either they are not talking to Ige or they think that the mainlanders are too stupid to know what is going on and will willingly part with their money, which Hawaiian will be able to keep if they still offer a flight to the islands, even if Ige as banned such passengers from flying. I think this is unethical marketing.
@James: “The vaccine DOES NOT WORK:” Many published studies show that the vaccines have efficacy in excess of 90%. It’s not 100%–you can still get infected–but it’s like seat belts. Some people die in car wrecks even if they’re belted in, but the seat belts certainly save lives. Of course, vaccines only work if they’re injected, like seat belts only work if they’re buckled around people.
@CHRIS: “We don’t need Hawaii:” I’m sure the Pacific Fleet would be interested to hear your plans for a replacement headquarters.
Guam
Not exactly a good faith argument, considering Guam has even stricter COVID-19 protocols than Hawaii.
The efficacy numbers that you’re quoting aren’t true anymore. The current efficacy numbers are now closer to 66%.
So Hawaii has had one of the most restrictive mask mandates since this whole thing started and approximately 60% of people have been vaccinated, yet they are talking about lockdowns again because of surging covid numbers. Does the science say masks and vaccinations have been successful? Apparently not.
So true
Can we PLEASE let Hawaii seceed?…..I’ll even entertain DC statehood to sweeten the deal. We don’t need Hawaii and they’re a huge drain on the rest of us. Let’s give them what they want!
Spot on James! Getting a ‘vaccine’ that is 40% effective against a virus that is 99.998% ineffective against killing you is pure insanity. If you read the manufacturer’s warning on the back of masks it LITERALLY says it will not work against a virus. #sheep That’s the actual science JRG
‘vaccine’ that is 40% effective against a virus that is 99.998% ineffective against killing you”
where did you manage to get those numbers? From a ‘crazy uncle’ on facebook? Our family got one too… as everyone now days… or are you one of those??? LOL
Ha. Ok, James – you go first and die off to get the ball rolling. Let’s just totally ignore science and wait for enough people to die off and then we can call it success.
The sheep have spoken!
The definition of insanity? Repeating the same thing and expecting different results. These lockdowns and border closings DO NOT WORK. The vaccine DOES NOT WORK. These masks DO NOT WORK. The ONLY way out of this is herd immunity. Time to suck it up and face reality or you sheep will be dealing wiht this for years to come.
For you and those that spout that kind of stuff, if you just add one more line to your EMPHATIC POSTS it would be: AND DONT GO TO THE HOSPITAL. If you don’t believe in vaccines or masks or aerosol/droplet precautions that’s all good man. You surely don’t believe in a healthcare system that’s based on science so just stay out of the hospital, rub some homemade ivermectin cream on your chest and don’t go to the hospital. When you’re on your pseudo science Facebook groups, no new normal subreddits, whatever, etc, just please emphasize no going to the hospital. That’s all, just a simple request. Practice what you preach, don’t go to the hospital with your covid filled lungs. I don’t understand why no mask, no vax, no hospital isn’t the mantra, let’s get that started please. Thanks.
Amen @PartsUnknown @James and others- please stay out of the hospitals if you don’t believe in science that’s cool! Don’t believe and stay out of doctor’s offices and hospitals. Don’t cherry pick your crazy though! My friends and family in healthcare would rather you get vaccinated and wear a mask, but if you don’t please stop making them work themselves to the bone trying to save your life. K? thanks.
