How Long Does A Hyatt $15K Free Night Certificate Take To Post? My Experience

If you remember my experience with Hyatt free night certificates aren’t always smooth. Last year, I foolishly started spending toward my $15K free night on my World of Hyatt card when my annual fee posted. The problem was that my anniversary wasn’t for a few more weeks after the annual fee posted. And that is what resets the clock for earning a $15K category 1-4 free night certificate, not the annual fee. Doh! Well, I didn’t make that mistake again this year.  Plus with the changes to Hyatt’s terms, more on that later, I was able to kind of double dip a free night certificate this time around. So, how long does a Hyatt $15K free night certificate take to post? Has anything changed during the pandemic?

Reminder: A Hyatt $15K Free Night Certificate Double Dip Could Be Possible

Before I get into how long it took for my $15K free night cert to post to my Hyatt account I want to remind you of Hyatt’s upcoming changes. Currently World of Hyatt card members can earn a category 1-4 free night certificate after spending $15,000 on their card within their cardmember year. You have from anniversary date to anniversary date to get it done.

That changes on January 1st though. Hyatt will be changing it to calendar year going forward. I like this change because it simplifies everything, at least for me mentally. Plus, if you upgraded or product changed to the card etc. you won’t have to remember that your anniversary date and annual fee date are different. Yeah, that one still stings a bit!

Because of the upcoming change you may be able to get a double dip of free night earning. My anniversary was in July.  That meant that I had from July until December 31st to earn my first free night certificate. Then starting January 1st everything resets, and I can go for another one, essentially earning two in a twelve month period.

This double dip is completely dependent on when your anniversary date is though. If your anniversary is in December or January etc. then you miss out on the fun.  So be sure to check and see if you can make the double dip happen.

My World of Hyatt Category 1-4 $15K Free Night Certificate Timeline

Here are the dates for my free night certificate time frame:
  • September 7th: completed the purchases needed to hit the $15,000 in spend.
  • September 17th: my statement cut.
  • September 19th: Hyatt shows my free night certificate.
  • September 27th: email from Hyatt saying I earned a free night certificate.

This still falls in line with what I have experienced in previous years too. The certificate posting seems to be dictated by when your statement cuts instead of by when the spending is actually completed.  So be aware that it could take close to a month to see the award if your timing is poor.

How Long Does The Hyatt $15K Free Night Take – Final Thoughts

The World of Hyatt card $15,000 category 1-4 free night certificate still comes fairly quickly, even when everything moves slowly these days. It comes much quicker than the anniversary certificate has taken for me in the past. Just remember that you will not see it until a few days after the statement cuts so plan accordingly.  It is worth checking your account because it may post days, or weeks, before you get the email alerting you to it.

Also remember that there may be a chance to double dip the free night certificate over the before the end of the year.  That depends entirely on your cardmember anniversary though.
