Book Hyatt Points + Cash Online

As many long time readers of the blog know, I am a big fan of Hyatt. I work hard to keep my Diamond status because I like their loyalty program, their product and the service at their hotels. There has been one big frustration for me though.

Since I am always in need of stay credits, I book A LOT of Points + Cash awards. Points + Cash awards count towards elite status whereas pure points redemptions don’t. Up until now Points + Cash awards have not been available online and the only way to see availability and/or book was to call Gold Passport. This has been a little frustrating and inconvenient.

A new tab has appeared! You can now see and book Hyatt Points + Cash awards online.

Thankfully that has now changed. Hyatt has added the ability to see and book Points + Cash awards online as you can see above. To find them, simply perform a search like normal, click “Show Hyatt Gold Passport Points & Awards” and you will see a tab for points awards and points + cash. Previously only points awards showed up.

Points + Cash Overview

For those who don’t know, Points + Cash are a good deal in many cases. Depending on the category of the hotel, you pay a certain amount of points in addition to the set co-pay. Here are the various amounts:

I find that the lower level properties are normally a great deal since some of them go for $125-$150 per night. Additionally, categories 2-6 give you a great points saving value. For example, with category 2, you can pay $55 to save 4,000 points. In that case you are basically buying the points at 1.38 cents each which is a great deal for Hyatt.

Conclusion

While the ability to book Hyatt Points + Cash online may not seem like a huge deal, for people who stay at Hyatt properties often, this is a great development. It means that you can not only avoid the phone call for booking, but can also plan better by seeing availability at a number of hotels before deciding on your ultimate plans. Thanks Hyatt for bringing this online. It took awhile, but I’m glad it’s here.

  1. Yeah having the daily fees waived at the Andaz in Maui was a BIG deal. Course looking almost a year ahead at the Andaz Maui I see no availability for cash & points there AND the link to click to search for availability is of course broken…

  2. Interesting. Shawn, if you use points and cash it is treated as a paid night. However, a paid night might end up adding resort fees. Not a huge deal usually, but in places like Costa Rica and other higher-end resorts this can be a decent sized charge.
It’s my understanding that using points only will waive these fees making them more valuable.
FWIW, at the Andaz CR the resort fee is a % of the rate not a flat dollar amount. Not sure about Maui et al.
With a standard $500/night(high season) rate I’ve seen resort fees add up to almost 10% per night!

    • Good point Geoff. In Maui the resort fee is $40 and as you say is waived on award stays. It is always important to add in any fees (which should be disclosed at booking) to see what the best deal is. Having just recently stayed in Maui, I chose to do a full award stay even though I didn’t get stay credit, because I felt it was a better overall value.
