Increased Ink Preferred Offer – 100K Ultimate Rewards Up For Grabs
Chase is rolling out the 100K welcome offers right and left. First it was the United Business Card, then the United Club Infinite card and now the increased Ink Preferred offer. This is an increase of 20,000 points from the previous 80,000 point offer. This offer has also been floating around as a targeted offer for a few weeks but it is now publicly available. There is a big catch though, the spend required has tripled.
Welcome Offer
The current welcome offer for the Ink Preferred is as follows:
- 100,000 Ultimate Rewards Points
- After spending $15,000 within the first 3 months
- $95 annual fee is NOT waived.

This is the highest the offer has ever publicly been for the card.

Welcome Offer Restrictions
The Chase Ink Preferred card does fall under the dreaded Chase 5/24 rule. While it falls under the rule remember that it does not count towards your 5/24 count. So if you are at 4/24 you can apply for it and still get another Chase card after.
Most Chase cards have a 24 month restriction as well. This restriction usually limits you from getting a welcome for a second time within 24 months for the same card. There is no such terminology/restriction in Ink Business Preferred terms. You may want to verify that with recent data points before applying if you fall within the 24 month time frame.
Earning Structure
The Chase Ink Business Preferred card comes with the following earning structure:

The Ink Preferred comes with the following perks:
- Your Ultimate Rewards points are worth 25% more when booking travel through the UR portal.
- Ultimate Rewards points are transfer eligible with this card. That opens up 1 to 1 transfers to Southwest, United, Hyatt, British Airways among others.
- Cell phone protection – Get up to $600 per claim in cell phone protection against covered theft or damage for you and your employees listed on your monthly cell phone bill when you pay it with your Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card. Maximum of 3 claims in a 12 month period with a $100 deductible per claim.
- No foreign transaction fees
- Trip Interruption/Cancellation Insurance – If your trip is cancelled or cut short by sickness, severe weather and other covered situations, you can be reimbursed up to $5,000 per trip for your pre-paid non-refundable travel expenses, including passenger fares, tours, and hotels.
- Extended Warranty Protection – Extends the time period of U.S. manufacturer’s warranty by an additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less
- Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver – Decline the rental company’s collision insurance and charge the entire rental cost to your card. Coverage is primary when renting for business purposes and provides reimbursement up to the actual cash value of the vehicle for theft and collision damage for most cars in the U.S. and abroad.
It is important to remember that the insurance and protection perks only are good towards business purchases. Example: The car rental insurance coverage will not cover car rentals for personal trips etc.
Thoughts On Increased Ink Preferred Offer
The old 80,000 offer for the Ink Preferred has long been thought of one of the best offers on the market. And that was also the largest welcome offer in the Ultimate Rewards family. That number has now gone up even further but so has the required spend.
Spending $15,000 in 3 months is a tall task for a lot of small businesses, especially in today’s unsteady economy. I would say Chase picked a pretty horrible time to roll this out. I myself would have considered bumping it back. If however your business still has a healthy level of spend then I do think this offer is superior even with the increase in spend required.
Lets assume you took advantage of the old offer you would have at least 85,000 points at the end of completing the $5,000 in spend. With the current offer you would have at least 115,000 points after completing the $15,000 in spend. That is a difference of 30,000 points for an additional $10,000 worth of spend. I would take earning 3X on my non bonus spend all day long so I think this new offer comes out ahead, even if more difficult to reach.
The Ink Preferred offers a compelling earning structure and pretty good insurance perks for a sub $100 annual fee card. But if you find yourself not maximizing the card at the end of the first year you could always downgrade it to the valuable Ink Cash or Ink Unlimited cards and avoid the annual fee in year 2.
