Days 83-84 Thursday & Friday July 12 & 13, 2007 – Vancouver, British Columbia to Portland, Oregon

To be honest, I don’t have much to report here and thus the only picture I can provide is the beautfiul rose above.  We woke up Thursday morning and bid farewell to my cousin.  He truly made us feel at home.  It was wonderful, considering that we have been away from home for a little while.  After leaving his house we got on the road for our five hour drive down to Portland.  In reality, we stayed Thursday night in Vancouver, WA which sits right across the border from Portland.

Before we reached Portland I did have a little business to take care of in Mt. Vernon, Washington.  You see, a couple of days ago on our way up to Canada, I stopped for a haircut.  Unfortunately, the lady didn’t cut it very straight, so I spent two days obsessing about it.  Since we had to drive right by the place again on the way down, I decided to stop in to get it straightened out.  Luckily, I didn’t get the same lady and the new one did a great job!  Thank god, because I have a wedding to go to next week!

The rest of the drive to Portland was petty non-descript.  We did stop outside Seattle at a movie theater to see Transformers.  We hadn’t seen a movie in a while, so it was nice.  Shawn Reece and Jasmine liked it a lot, but I thought it was just ok.  In my opinion, the Transformers are not supposed to talk.  But what can you do.

Friday we made the 20 mile drive to Portland and our hotel.  We were pretty wiped from the past couple of days and wanted to settle into our hotel a little early.  When we arrived a 1pm, the lady told us that our room would not be ready until 2pm, which was their normal check in time.  With a little time on our hands, we ate some lunch, went to a local park for a while and the returned to the hotel at 2:15pm.  Of course, our luck would have it that the room wasn’t ready until 3 o’clock, so we just sat around and twiddled our thumbs.  I was a little mad and told Jasmine that I was going to make a complaint to their corporate office, but later thought to myself that it would be more trouble than it is worth.

Much of the rest of Friday night was spent lounging around before we headed out to get dinner.  While we were supposed to tour the city today, it just didn’t happen.  Tomorrow we are either going to take an organized tour of Portland, or just wander around and try to see what the locals do.  Either way, we plan to have fun.  As of now, we really like the vibe in Portland and it is undeniable that this part of the world is gorgeous.
