Lyft JetBlue Partnership

Lyft JetBlue Partnership

Uber has famously partnered with many companies including Starwood and Capital One to provide riders with added benefits and now Lyft appears to be getting into the game with a newly announced partnership between them and JetBlue.

Through the exclusive partnership, JetBlue customers will receive unique discounts and travel perks. Today also marks the first time that riders can earn travel points through Lyft on an ongoing basis. By linking their JetBlue and Lyft accounts, Lyft passengers can earn TrueBlue loyalty points on any Lyft ride to and from any airport nationwide, up to 1,200 TrueBlue points per year.

1,200 points per year isn’t much (and their announcement didn’t seem to indicate exactly at what rate points are earned), but it is more than nothing and I don’t see any reason not to link your account.

More Benefits

In addition to the point earning, here are some more benefits of this partnership:

  • Lyft will be integrated into the JetBlue mobile app.
  • New users who sign up for Lyft through JetBlue will automatically receive a $15 ride credit or 750 TrueBlue points. They will also have access to discounts through in-flight and digital promotions.
  • Lyft will transform Terminal 5 at New York City’s JFK airport with a designated pickup and drop-off area, offering unparalleled convenience and delight for travelers, whether arriving or departing.

Let’s take those one by one. I suppose Lyft being integrated into the JetBlue app is fine, but it isn’t a huge deal. The sign-up credit is actually less than you can get through referrals a lot of the time as well. What I do see as a big deal is the dedicated area. Since JetBlue has their own terminal at JFK, this could add a ton of convenience. If Lyft has preferred pickup spots, that could give them a big advantage of Uber and taxis and make the arrival/departure experience much more seamless.

Conclusion

Whenever companies partner up to add more benefit to the customer I think it is a good thing. I am a fan of JetBlue, but don’t have strong feelings either way towards Lyft. With that said, it is good to see them competing a bit with Uber and I think this new exclusive JFK pickup/dropoff area is a great idea and a great way to lock in some customers.

What are your thoughts? Is better integration and up to 1,200 points per year enough to get you to give up Uber for Lyft? Do you think this dedicated area at JFK’s T5 will make a difference? Let us know in the comments!
