Mlife Southwest Partnership
Earlier today I talked about my crazy upcoming mattress run on the Las Vegas Strip to re-qualify for Hyatt Diamond status. In that post I mentioned that I would be earning 600 Southwest Rapid Rewards points per stay and several people asked how. I figured it was worthy of sharing in a separate post since I know this is a little known benefit.
Much like how Hyatt and Mlife have a partnership, Hyatt and Southwest have one too. (Thanks to Single Flyer for tipping me off to this at the Vegas DO.) Here are the details as explained on the Southwest website:
Rapid Rewards® Members who are also members of M life, the loyalty program of MGM Resorts, can earn 600 Rapid Rewards Points for every qualifying stay, courtesy of MGM Resorts International. Plus, book your stay on southwest.com® to earn an additional 150 points.
Participating destinations: Bellagio®, ARIA®, Vdara®, MGM Grand®, The Signature at MGM Grand®, Mandalay Bay®, Delano™ Las Vegas, The Mirage®, Monte Carlo™, New York-New York®, Luxor®, Excalibur®
How to Get the Credit & Double Dipping
Thankfully Mlife lets you double dip with both Hyatt and Southwest. To get credit for both programs, simply have the agent add your account numbers to the reservation at check-in. You can also call or email the hotel ahead of time to get those numbers added as well. Either way, I would confirm at check-in that all of the information is there.
Booking Through the Southwest Website?
As is mentioned in the terms above, you can earn an additional 150 Rapid Rewards points if you book your stay through the Southwest website. While I believe these stays would also earn Hyatt credit, I have always played it safe and booked everything directly through Mlife to avoid any problems. I find my Mlife elite rates are better than public rates anyway. Either way, I can neither confirm nor deny whether booking through Southwest for the extra 150 points will keep you eligible for Hyatt points/stay credits as well.
Conclusion
If you do a lot of cheap one night Mlife stays like I do, then the 600 points begin to add up quickly. Considering you don’t have to do anything special other than book a “qualifying stay” (i.e. Don’t use a third party booking service) this is a no-brainer. Between Hyatt and Southwest I normally end up getting at least a 10-15% rebate in points and that is a good thing!

I want to share my experience on double dipping Hyatt and SW points.
I stayed in the Mirage late December 2015 and gave both my Hyatt and SW accounts to the check in agent thanks to this post. I haven’t received any of the points yet so I emailed Mlife. Here’s what the representative wrote:
“Thank you for contacting M life Member Services. You are only eligible to receive partnership credit for one partner. Please reply to this email and let us know if you would prefer to have Southwest Rapid Rewards credit or Hyatt Gold Passport credit. Once we have your preference, we will be able to submit a request for retroactive credit. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can provide any additional assistance.”
So no double dipping. Boooo….
Yeah that is their official policy. If somehow both numbers make their way onto your reservation then both will post (if it is done correctly), but if you have to ask after the fact they will tell you no.
[…] upgraded to a huge suite. That wouldn’t have happened over the holiday weekend! Of course I also earned both Hyatt and Southwest points for the stay along with Mlife tier […]
Has anyone tried to double dip like this at other hotel chains?
I will be staying at different hotels in the next few days and want to make sure this “hack” is not just for Hyatt/Mlife/SWA.
I always thought it was earning one or the other. Not both point programs.
Thanks for the HT Shawn. I’m not a SW guy so didn’t realize the value of the double dip. Hope it helps some folks. And hope the double dip continues!
Wow Shawn. Really appreciate this post because I have been missing out. Totally sucks man!!
When I read the SW website previously, it totally makes it sounds like you cant double dip!!
“How to earn:
To receive Rapid Rewards Points for your eligible stay, you must select Rapid Rewards Points as your currency of choice.”
So if I want to earn BOTH, then I assume I leave the currency as Hyatt, but just include the RR number at check in?
This must be a “secret”! How about other hotel chains?
Even for SPG:
“How to earn:
To receive Rapid Rewards Points for your stay, you must be enrolled in the Rapid Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest programs and have selected Rapid Rewards Points as your currency of choice before the hotel stay.”
Dammit!
Thanks for posting. I agree the mlife rates seem to be always lower. Once in a while I get a discounted offer from hotel com that makes it comparable. But hyatts site is always more expensive when booking mlife hotels
Shawn: if flying Southwest to LAS is it easy to access the Amex Centurion lounge upon arrival and departure?
It is easy enough. You need to take the tram from the “C” gates towards baggage claim. When you get off of the train don’t exit security, but go through the door to the adjacent train and take it to the “D” gates. Once you exit go up the escalators, turn left and the Centurion Lounge is about 2 minutes away! Takes about 10 minutes.
Thx
Thanks Shawn!
