American Express is constantly refreshing their offerings with their Sync program. If you don’t know what it is, Sync allows you to link a card with the social network of your choice (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare or TripAdvisor) and load offers from various merchants onto it. Alternatively, you can also load offers when logging into your American Express account from the “Offers For You” tab. Recently there have been quite a few good offers including $50 off of $200 at Neiman Marcus and $25 off of $75 at Amazon. The way it works is that you shop at the merchant as your normally would. Within 8 weeks (although in my experience much quicker) you receive a statement credit.
Yesterday the newest offer came out. This time, they are offering $25 off of a $100 purchase at J Crew. Since this offer works on the purchase of gift cards, this could be a great holiday gift idea or you could simply turn around and sell the gift card for $75-$80 online and make out slightly ahead. (I use Gift Card Granny to compare websites who buy gift cards.) Also, Ebates offers 6% cash back which is another possible bonus. (I am currently testing to see if shopping portals pay out on the purchase of gift cards from J Crew. There have been mixed reports of it working.) Either way, this is an easy way to hit minimum spending on an American Express card or simply earn a few extra points. Also, if you like J Crew then this gives an incredible value.
Remember that all American Express cards issued directly are eligible along with authorized user accounts. American Express cards issued by other banks such as Citi are only eligible on the main card and must be synced via a social network. We have a total of 7 American Express cards in our family that are eligible and quite often I am able to sync all of them for quite a bit of savings!
