Select Platinum Cardholders Can Now Bring Guest for Free at Centurion Lounges

American Express offered free guest access to Platinum cardholders at Centurion Lounges until last month. Starting February 1st, you can no longer bring in guests for free. You will need to pay $50 for adults and $30 for children.

If you don’t want to pay for guests access, then you need to spend $75,000.00 in eligible purchases within a calendar year. If you spend $75,000 this year for example, you get free guests access for the rest of the year and through Jan 31, 2025.

But now, just a week after introducing these new access rules, American Express is sending out emails to select Platinum cardholders, telling them they have complimentary guest access.

It’s not clear if this is a targeted promotion or based on spending from previous year. People who report getting these emails have not spent $75,000 on the card mentioned in the email. But maybe American Express is counting spending on all Platinum cards instead? Or maybe it’s completely random?

Conclusion

We do not know yet who is targeted with these emails. Check your email accounts or your American Express Platinum accounts online to see if you have unlocked complimentary guest access for this year.

  1. I obtained my current Business Platinum mid-year. I was just shy of $75k for partial-year 2022. My aggregate Amex spending across cards was significantly above the requirement. It would not surprise me if Amex adopts an aggregate spending criteria.

  2. $69K on personal Plat, almost all airfare, no email received. Maybe they figure I already got my benefit :>

  3. I got this on one of my business platinum cards. I spent around 45K on it last year but well over 150K on all business cards.

  4. I received the email today. I cam close but did not hit the $75k requirement on either my Schwab ($32k) or Business Platinum ($69k). Total spend in 2022 across all my Amex cards was $298k so I’m sure that was factored in as well.
