Singapore Airlines Releases Alaska Airlines Award Chart

Scott over at Travel Codex broke the news that Singapore Airlines released their Alaska Airlines award chart.  This chart shows how many KrisFlyer miles (Singapore Airline’s frequent flier program) are needed to fly on Alaska Airlines metal.

The Chart

The chart is a zone based chart.  You have to find which zone your origin flight is in and which zone your destination is in and that will give you the one way cost.  Lets say you wanted to go from California to New York.  California is in Zone 1 and New York is in Zone 4 so the flight would be 12,000 miles one way in economy.

It is believed that only direct flights are bookable and that could be why there are empty spots in the award chart – but no one is 100% sure at this point. Only flights on Alaska metal are bookable at these rates, Virgin America flights are not currently included.

Sweet Spots

The sweet spot everyone is excited about is the West Coast to Hawaii.  This is a Zone 1 to Zone 5 flight which is 12,000 KrisFlyer miles. British Airways used to offer the lowest flights to Hawaii from the West Coast at 12,500 Avios.

Transfer Partners

Singapore Airlines is a transfer partner for all 4 major transferable programs.  They transfer 1 to 1 with Chase UR, American Express MR, SPG (1.25 if you transfer exactly 20,000), and Citi ThankYou.

The last one is the one I want to focus on, Citi ThankYou points.  Citi ThankYou points are the weakest of the 4 currency in terms of value.  Using 12,000 ThankYou points to fly to Hawaii is an amazing deal!

Make sure there is availability before transferring your points over to KrisFlyer. KrisFlyer miles expire after 3 years.

If you decide to transfer ThankYou points make sure you are getting more than 1.3 cents per point before making the transfer.  If the value is less than that you would get better value booking a paid ticket through Citi’s portal. When using Citi’s portal you get 1.25 cents per point towards flights plus you earn miles and status when booking this way.

Conclusion

It is always a plus when a new option becomes available to redeem your hard earned miles.  And when that option comes with the lowest rates available for certain flights it makes it even better.

KrisFlyer being a transfer partner of all four major currencies makes them easy to accumulate.  I believe this also increases the value of your transferable currencies some, especially Citi ThankYou points.

What do you think of this news?  Are you starting to plan a Hawaii vacation already?

  1. Thanks for the info!
How does one “make sure there is availability before transferring your points over to KrisFlyer”?

    Thanks again!

    • You could check Alaska award space on BA’s site and if you find something that works call in to KrisFlyer to confirm there is space. Remember it takes up to 14 days (usually 2 days) for Citi points to transfer if you use them. So if you see a lot of availability on the dates you are looking for, or have some flexibility, then you could transfer them before calling. It is a little bit of a risk though.
