Staples Visa Gift Card Deal
Staples sells a variety of Visa & Mastercard gift cards. Depending on the value (up to $200) the fee to purchase these can cost as much as $6.95. . Well, this week they are bringing back an offer that waives the fee completely. Let’s take a look.
Updated 10/30/22
The Offer
No purchase fee when you buy a $200 Visa® Gift Card (up to 8)
Key Terms
Offer valid 10/30/22 – 11/5/22
The Visa® Gift Card is issued by Metabank
Limit of 8 per person, per day
Maximizing This Deal
Cards like the Chase Ink Plus, Ink Cash and Amex SimplyCash Plus will all earn 5X/5% back on these purchases. I also assume you may be able to visit multiple stores and/or ask to do multiple transactions despite the terms, but that is obviously YMMV.
Spending the Visa Gift Cards
These Visa cards are PIN-enabled and should work anywhere Visa is accepted. I know people have had issues with these coding as debit cards at Walmart, but they do work at some places and can be run as credit if you are just using them to buy normal products.
I always love when Staples brings back this offer. Most people probably prefer Visa gift cards and will be happy for this offer. Happy Ultimate Rewards’ing next week.

11-03-2022. staples Visa GC are not ringing up with the fee waived. Only MC is fee waived at least for this week.
I just found out one advantage of MC over Visa GCs bought at Staples. I tried to use Visa GCs to pay my homeowner’s insurance premium online but they bounced. According to Blackhawk, a Visa GC cannot be used to pay “recurring bills” although I don’t know where that is disclosed. I was able to use MC GCs.
I have a lot of cards in my wallet, but not the one’s that you have mentioned in this article. Are there other cards that will pay out 5x for these gift cards? Thanks.
I primarily use Visa and MC gift cards purchased from Staples to pay my utility bills, etc. as a credit card after registering them. Is it better or safer to use a PIN and use as a debit card?

Be careful with the Mastercards. Unlike the Visa’s, these are very prone to having the money stolen from them due to the predictability of the numbers.

Awesome – nothing like earning 5X on bills you have to pay anyway 🙂

There are some business cards that will give 2X or 3X at office stores so if you have any business cards check those first.
Would be helpful to know where exactly you can still load them to bb card. It stopped working at most of the Walmarts.
My go-to’s for paying for my son’s college (which doesn’t charge credit card fees)
Perfect!

I don’t think it matters either way honestly.
Thanks.

If you get these can you register them and change pin so someone can’t guess number?
Yeah you can change the pin online or by calling in
Thank you

If you buy them, liquidate them immediately.
In Key Terms you have it listed as 1 per customer. However, you say there are no limits mentioned in the ad. Which is it officially?
The flyer says it’s Metabank too.
Looks like no limit but I am sure each store will enforce their own limits. I updated both – thanks Max!
Is the default MCGC Metabank PIN last 4? like gc.com orders?
