Synchrony Credit Limit Increase
Higher credit limits offer more flexibility. Those who actively, carefully push their available credit can earn and redeem more rewards. One method for increasing limits doesn’t involve asking for more credit. Bank policies vary, but individuals can shift credit limit between active accounts fairly easily. I’ve done this for years and still do, as recently as last week with Bank of America in preparation for More Rewards Day. Alternatively, cardholders can straight-up ask banks for higher credit limits. The ease of doing so varies between banks and over time. The past several months, I noticed a simple online option to request a Synchrony credit limit increase seemingly disappeared. But I recently discovered an alternative, just-as-easy option. Let’s take a look at the developments and how to adapt.
Online Synchrony Credit Limit Increase Vanishes?
For years, asking for a Synchrony credit limit increase has been fairly straightforward. After logging in on the Synchrony website, I clicked on one of my cards, usually noted with “account ending in XXXX.” Within the account summary just below the available credit amount, a button existed to request more credit.
Over time, that button has vanished – for me, at least. I first noticed the removal with my Synchrony Premier Mastercard 2% cash back account, then the Sam’s Mastercard. Months later, this button disappeared from the rest of my Synchrony accounts.
Of course, I knew calling in to request a Synchrony credit limit increase could be an option. But like many of you, I appreciate the ease and convenience of doing so online. Fortunately, another online method exists.
Ask via App
Despite my routine use of the MySynchrony app, I only recently noticed I could ask for a credit limit increase via the platform. In fairness, the option is relatively buried within the app. Here are the steps for requesting a bump via the app.
-  Launch the MySynchrony app and log in. Your various credit card accounts are displayed.
- Select the desired Synchrony credit card account to request a credit limit increase.
- At the top of the Account Summary screen, you’ll see the card name and last four digits of the account number. Immediately below, an Account Services link appears. Tap Account Services.
- At the bottom of the screen, a pop-up appears, noting options for Account Actions, including Credit Limit Increase and Change Payment Due Date. Tap Credit Limit Increase.
- You’ll see your card’s current credit limit, followed by two fields asking for the desired limit and your annual net income. Add those figures and review.
- Tap Request Increase.
- Review your results!
My Experience
Now, I’ll share my experiences asking for Synchrony credit limit increases, via the website or app. Generally, Synchrony has granted more limit on credit cards after a minimum of six months since my last increase. Sometimes the bank has provided the full amount I’ve requested. Other times, they provide more credit, but not up to my desired level. Consequently, in certain situations, I ask for a bit more than I may immediately want. Regardless, I’m happy with whatever increase I obtain, knowing I can hopefully pick up more six months down the road.
For what it’s worth, I’ve had a bigger challenge obtaining a Synchrony Premier Mastercard credit limit increase than any other Synchrony credit card. And while I’ve obtained CLI’s across multiple Synchrony cards on the same day, I don’t presume that outcome. Therefore, I prioritize these requests and request the CLI on the higher-importance card first.
Conclusion
Perhaps I haven’t shared anything earth-shattering today. But some of you may be unaware of this Synchrony credit limit increase alternative in the app. I’m all for more options to increase my rewards, especially easy, usually-online methods. Plus, Synchrony doesn’t necessarily provide the most generous credit limits upon approval. Getting to more significant lines can require more attention via cardholder-initiated credit limit increase requests. Indeed, control what you can in our hobby!
