Heathrow Airport and Some British Airlines Are Dropping Mask Requirement
The UK’s busiest airport and at least two airlines will get rid of the mask requirement following the government’s announcement ending all Covid travel measures as of Friday, March 18.
Face coverings at Heathrow will no longer be mandatory. But the airport still “strongly encourages those at the airport to continue wearing a face covering, particularly when coming into close contact with others”.
The change applies across all of Heathrow’s terminals, bus and railway stations, as well as office spaces. The new rules go into effect on march 16, 2022, The Independent report.
“We know some passengers may feel vulnerable, and we are encouraging colleagues to be respectful and put on a face covering when near a passenger who requests it”, the statement added.
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are also dropping the mask requirement for some routes. British Airways customers will only be required to wear a face mask on flights if it’s a requirement for their destination. Virgin Atlantic on the other hand said it would gradually remove the mask requirement, starting tomorrow with Caribbean flights from London and Manchester.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said Monday that these changes will allow “greater freedom in time for Easter” and will mean that “you can travel just like in the good old days”.
