United Schedule Change Policy

United Makes Terrible Change to Schedule Change Policy

When all airlines are trying to make changes to accommodate flyers during the coronavirus outbreak, United is going in the opposite direction. Yes they are waiving change fees on any bookings made between March 3 and March 31, 2020, but they have just made an outrageous update to their schedule change policy.

Until now if there was a schedule change of more than two hours for your flight, you could request a refund from the airline. But since Saturday, that time frame has changed to 25 hours. Yes, a whole day.

So your flight schedule change needs to be more than 25 hours for United Airlines to issue a refund. If you are scheduled to fly today and United has a schedule change and rebooks you at the same time tomorrow, you can not get a refund.

Here is the airline’s explanation for this policy change:

We recently announced a significant reduction of our international and domestic schedules and as a result, we expect more customers to be impacted than normal. This policy change allows us to accommodate our customers by offering more options to rebook their flights.

Clearly this is anything but accommodating. Being delays by up to 25 hours with no refund option can mess up your connections, your hotel stays and your travel plans altogether. And all this while people are already struggling with deciding if flying is worth it at all.

Let us know what you think, and whether this change will make you avoid United altogether?
