Upgrade to Capital One Venture X

Upgrade to Capital One Venture X

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card launched yesterday to mostly positive vibes. I shared my thoughts on the card yesterday and why I think it could be great for some and just pretty good for others.  One of the questions I have got on the card is if people could upgrade to the Venture X if they were unable to get it via a new account.  Just a reminder, even current Venture cardholders are eligible for the new card. But, if you are denied, like I was, you still have hope to get the card if you already have a Capital One account. Because it is possible to upgrade to Capital One Venture X, even online.

Some of these offers may have changed or ended since posting.

Step By Step Guide to Upgrade to Capital One Venture X

A member of our Facebook Group, Renee N., alerted me to the fact that it was easy to upgrade to the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card online. I still have a Quicksilver card from when I downgraded my Venture card years ago so I gave it a try.  And it was as easy as it gets. I didn’t go through with it but here are the steps. This may be a one time thing though because the next time I logged in the option was gone. So only click through when you are ready.

Step 1

Log into your account, obviously 😊.

Step 2

Once I logged into my account on a computer I saw a link that I was eligible for a rewards upgrade. That is what you will want to click.

Step 3

Once you click through rewards upgrade link you are taken to this page with upgrade options. The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card was my first option on the left.  The other Venture products were listed as well.

What If You Don’t See The Option Online?

Like I said above, when I went back into my account a second time the link was gone.  I searched around the site to see if there was another way to the upgrade screen but I couldn’t find it.  If this is the case you will need to call the number on the back of your card or start up the Capital One chat function. Ask the front line rep for a product change on your current card.  They should be able to do it for you.

Upgrade to Capital One Venture X – Final Thoughts

I think most people should attempt to sign up for the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card first before going the upgrade route.  That way you get the 100,000 point welcome offer plus the $200 Airbnb / VRBO credit as well.  But if you already have 2 Capital One cards, recently signed up for one or just don’t want the hard pull because of Chase 5/24 etc. this is an option.  As I said yesterday, I think this is a better product for most than the OG Venture card.  Even though the annual fee is $300 more a year you can get $400 in credit making this $100 better in fees. Plus you get top tier Hertz status and lounge access with the card. If you know you can maximize the credits I think the Venture X is the way to go.

  1. My brother who has a 645 credit score on capital one and 2 quicksilver one cards, was approved for the venture X with $10k credit limit, his 3rd card with them.

  2. Mark, does Capital One have a preferential “pay with points” rate on its travel portal? Such as Chase’s 1.5 cents per point on UR Travel. Thanks.

  3. To directly go there without a link, add /productupgrade to the end of the url of the account page of the card you want to upgrade.
    Example:
    myaccounts.capitalone.com/Card/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx=/productupgrade
