$300 Retention Offer for Amex Blue Business Plus Card

Most premium credit cards come with an annual fee. When it’s time to pay the fee or in the month prior, it’s usually a good idea to contact your credit card issuer and ask if they have a retention offer. an annual fee.

Banks spend a lot of money to acquire customers, and they want you to keep their card in your wallet. So often they offer a spending bonus or just a flat statement credit for keeping the card for another year.

While we knew this was an option for credit cards with an annual fee, it is apparently possible for no fee cards as well.

Amex Blue Business Plus Retention Offer

PDX Deals Guy told us about such an offer for the American Express Blue Business Plus credit card. This is a great no fee card that earns 2X Membership Rewards points for all business spending.

Not only did he receive a retention offer, but it was also a good one. He contacted American Express via chat and was offered the following:

  • $100 credit
  • Plus $200 more after spending $4,000 on the card.

Offers vary. There’s another report for a $50 credit and additional $100 for spending $2,000 on the card. There was also a 5,000 Membership Rewards bonus offered. We have added this to our retention offer masterlist.

Conclusion

If you have the American Express Blue Business Plus card, it could be worth reaching out to American Express and see if you get any similar offers. It’s not clear if other no-fee cards would get such offers as well, but if you have any success, please let us and other readers know.

  1. Holy cow, that worked. Thank you so much for the tip! Got it done via chat. Offer: 5,000 MR right away + another 5,000 MR after spending $3K in 3 months. I actually have 2 BBP cards, and the same agent was able to activate identical retention offers on both. So 20,000 MR for free. I’m blown away.

No idea if this is significant or not, but here’s what I told the agent: I’ve been using my Blue Business Plus cards for a while, and personally love them. My partner has recently come across another credit card that offers more than 2x back on items that we often spend on and he’s pressuring me to switch spend to that card. Is there any sort of retention offer you can think of that might sweeten the Blue Business Plus value a bit, to tip the scales?

He asked me what kinds of things we spend on, and I told him general retail (I was intentionally vague).

  2. I tried this via chat and they wanted me to speak with a retention specialist over the phone so i declined. Talking to amex over the phone is a waste of time.

    • Tried again today. The rep said offers are also showing on chat, then he transferred me to retention team via chat and retention team offered NOTHING.

    • I guess this is me just being 100% unsuccessful with Amex retention. I had better chance with Chase on a Hyatt card.

  3. What exactly did he ask? I mean, a retention offer on a no-fee card is great, but some details would be nice so we know more about it and have a hint as to what to say.

  4. No joy from my attempt. “I checked and see that we have a dedicated retention team available, who have the access to share the offers with you. Due to limited rights at our end, these offers are not accesssible from our end. Would you mind giving a call to our retention team? You can connect with our team at 866-376=4552 between the hours of 7am to 11pm EST. When you call the number mentioned, please keep pressing 0#0# so that you can bypass the IVR. It will directly take you to one of our experts.” RAT trap?

    • I don’t think it’s necessarily a trap but I do always wonder how much the reps pay attention to our spending attends when conducting these retention calls.

Are you going to give it a shot?
