Amex Credits Are Delayed

Don’t Panic, Amex Credits Are Delayed For Pretty Much Everyone

Update 2/24: It appears many credits are now rolling through.  I have received all of my PayPal, Home Depot, Best Buy and restaurant credits.  I know some people are still waiting on some of the dining or PayPal credits but it appears many people have caught up.  I would expect the rest to post over the next few days.

We have been getting more and more data points on Amex credits not posting in our Diamond Lounge.  I figured I should pass along a PSA about it that if you were wondering what was going on. Have no fear, it isn’t just you having a problem.  There are numerous reports of Amex Offer credits, and some airline incidental credits, not posting in a timely matter. The emails seem to continue to go out for Amex Offers, alerting you to using the deal, but the credits are not posting.

I made some Best Buy purchases, for the $50 offers, on January 30th and February 1st and those have not been credited.  None of my food credit Amex Offers have posted properly yet. And, the Lowe’s purchase I made on February 2nd triggered the email but no credit.

This is pretty much the same for everyone else I have talked with. It is not a unique experience either, it seems like American Express has a credit delay issue every year towards the beginning of the year.  Them rolling out 4,700 credits (slightly exaggerated) probably didn’t help their below par IT either (use this spreadsheet to keep track of them) I would imagine things to be corrected and the credits to start rolling in over the next week or so.

If you don’t see anything by the end of the month then I would start to reach out about manual credits via Amex chat.  Hopefully it doesn’t come to that because that is a lot of requests we would be putting in 😂.

I figured it was worth a quick post to let you know that you are not alone and to not panic. The credits will come at some point soon….most likely at least 😉.

  1. I am in the same boat with the rest of you. Thanks for the info about this because I previously thought it was just me.

While I did not work on card systems during my years at Amex (I work on the Business Travel back office systems) I can tell you that the IT is NOT below par. These are very complex systems and Amex is a marketing driven company so it’s quite possible that they went to market with the program knowing that it might take them a few days to get the credits fully automated.

They are the most ethical large company I have ever worked for. If something is not right they will make it right in the long run.

    • Update as of Feb 24. All 12 of my credits for February have posted to mine and my wife’s accounts. This includes the Platinum Travel credit of $200, My Feb PayPal $30 and 2nd. Best Buy $50 along with the various restaurant credits on multiple cards.

  3. My Amex credits have all posted just fine, except for the 4x bonus points for office supply stores on my Business Platinum for an initial order of 6 $300 VGXs at Staples.com. Not sure if the bonus points are just delayed, or a gift card exclusion is being enforced.

    • Points aren’t the only thing you might be missing soon. They shut people down for buying gift cards at staples… especially for bonus spend.

  4. Does anyone know if Alex offers will still credit after you cancel a card? I made purchases a while back and am awaiting credits but am closing in on 30 days after an annual fee posted.

      • I was told the same thing by a CSR when I wrote in about my Motley Fool credit, it showed up today, 11 days after the purchase. She said it’s a new procedure this year. Gonna guess it’s cheaper/easier to make folks wait a few days than deal with returns or problems that may arise within a day or two of a purchase. But that’s a guess
