Chase Freedom $225 (22,500 Point) Offer

This morning I talked about the Chase Sapphire Preferred referral and now it seems that there is a Chase Freedom referral as well with an increased offer.

The Offer

According to Doctor of Credit, through June 25, 2015 you can refer your friend to the Freedom and you will receive $50 (5,000) points. They will receive:

  • $200 (20,000 points) after spending $500 in the first 3 months.
  • $25 (2,500 points) after adding an authorized user who makes their first purchase within 3 months.

For all of the pertinent information about the Chase Freedom card, please see my full review.

Eligibility

Update: The offer is now live and I rechecked my account and was eligible for a referral. I suggest checking your account again to see if you are able to refer people.

It seems that only select Freedom cardholders are eligible to refer their friends. (Neither my 2 nor my wife’s 1 Freedom accounts were eligible.) To see if you can refer someone, simply go to Chase Referral website and follow the prompts. You can find step by step instructions here.

Based on what has happened in the past, I believe this offer will become widely available next week on the Chase website as well. I put that out there without any concrete knowledge, just in case people aren’t comfortable using the referral links of others. With that said, feel free to post your referral links in the comments!

Analysis & Freedom Sapphire Strategy

This is as good as the Freedom bonus has been over the past few years and I wouldn’t expect it to get any higher. I think it is a good idea to get both the Freedom and Sapphire Preferred bonuses at some point and then eventually downgrade the Sapphire Preferred to a 2nd Freedom. This way you get double the 5x rotating category action! (This strategy has worked well for me.)

Conclusion

For many, this will be a great time to get the Freedom. If you were holding out for a higher bonus then now may be the time to apply. If you want to support other readers, feel free to use their referral links, however if you are more comfortable waiting for a public offer, I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens at some point soon.
