Citi ThankYou JetBlue Transfer Bonus

Citi ThankYou JetBlue Transfer Bonus

Citi is offering a new transfer bonus when you transfer ThankYou Points to TrueBlue Points.

The Offer

Get 25% more TrueBlue Points when you transfer ThankYou Points through 10/25/17.

Key Terms

  • Points must be transferred in increments of 1,000 and the minimum is 1,000 points.
  • Valid for Points Transfers completed between 9/7/17 12:00AM ET and 10/25/17 11:59PM ET
  • Thank You Points are deducted immediately at the time of transfer, BUT it can take up to 14 days for the points to hit your TrueBlue account.

Analysis

The first thing you should know is that just a few months ago Citi offered a 50% transfer bonus to JetBlue! The regular transfer rate between the two programs depends on whether you have the Citi Thank You Premier Card, the Prestige Card or the Thank You Preferred Card.

For the Thank You Preferred Card, the normal transfer rate is 1,000 TY Points to 500 TrueBlue. The Prestige and Premier Cards have a normal transfer rate of 1,000 TY Points to 800 TrueBlue. So this bonus gives you 625 or 1,000 TrueBlue Points for every 1,000 Thank You Points that you transfer. TrueBlue points are valuable and can be redeemed for 1.1-1.6 cents per point.  Keep in might that it might take up to fourteen days for the points to transfer.

Citi ThankYou JetBlue Transfer Bonus

Let’s Take a Look at the Math

If you have one of the premium cards mentioned, Citi ThankYou points can be used to book travel through the Thank You Portal at a value of 1.25 cents per point. So, 10,000 TY points would be worth $125 in airfare. One thing to note here is that these points can be used to book any airline, which means you can choose the cheapest flight option. You’ll also earn miles for your flight as opposed to booking an award ticket

TrueBlue award ticket prices vary based on the monetary cost of the same ticket. Using an average redemption value of 1.35 cents per point, those 10,000 TY points are worth $135 (if you have the Prestige or Thank You Premier Card) or $84.37 (if you have the Thank You Preferred Card.) If you redeem points for a Mint seat, you may be able to get a much higher value.

JetBlue Credit Card Kicker

If you have the Jetblue Plus Card you get a 10% point refund on award bookings. This brings the value of the points to 1.5 cent each and the value of your 10,000 Thank You points to $150 or $93.75, respectively. Still not quite a killer deal, but it has potential value for some.

Conclusion

Unless you have the JetBlue Plus Card, this is probably not worth it because points cannot be transferred back and you lose the flexibility that make ThankYou Points so valuable. If you don’t have an immediate need for points, I’d probably wait to see if they bring back the 50% transfer bonus. On the other hand, this is a good value for anyone who regularly flies JetBlue or who needs to top off their balance for an upcoming award ticket.
