Emirates Skywards Miles Expiration Policy Changes
Emirates has revealed upcoming changes to the Skywards Miles expiration policy. The program will no longer use the unique system that ties expiration dates to a member’s birthday.
Beginning June 1, 2027, newly earned Skywards Miles will be valid for three years from the flight or partner activity date, with the expiration date rounded to the end of that month.
Currently, miles expire three years after they’re earned, but the expiration is rounded to the end of the member’s birth month. That means that two members earning miles on the same day can have very different expiration dates because of their birthdays. That difference could be significant, up to 12 months.
Under the new system, everyone earning miles from June 1, 2027 onward will receive the same three-year validity period regardless of birth month. That also means that miles will expire up to one year earlier.
It’s worth noting that the change will not affect Skywards Miles that you already have in your account. All miles earned before June 1, 2027 will continue to follow existing expiration rules.
