Hilton Upgrade Offers Are Back! 150,000 Hilton Honors Points Up For Grabs

Readers let me know that the Hilton upgrade offers are back.  We are seeing two different offers that people are being targeted for.  Check your emails and Amex Offers section for either of these offers.

Remember that if you take one of these you would not be eligible for the welcome offer on the card for up to 4 years or more  because of Amex’s “once per lifetime rule“. It is best for people that have already had the card since you are not disqualified for an upgrade offer if you have carried the card before.

Update 9/9/22: Erin, a member of the MtM Diamond group was targeted for an upgrade offer from her Surpass to an Aspire card. Check your Amex Offers section and emails.

Details of the Offer

There are two upgrade offers available that we have seen.  There is one to upgrade to the Aspire card and one to upgrade to the Surpass card.  Let’s take a look at each offer.

Hilton Upgrade Offers Are Back

Amex Surpass Upgrade Offer

The first offer is for an upgrade from the no fee Hilton to the Amex Surpass:

  • Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors points after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months.
  • The $95 annual fee is not waived.

Amex Aspire Upgrade Offer

People are also seeing an upgrade offer to the Amex Aspire card from the Surpass and the no fee Hilton card:

  • Earn 150,000 Hilton Honors points after spending $4,000 within the first 3 months.
  • The $450 annual fee is not waived

Final Thoughts

Both of these offers are pretty great.  Mainly because they do not require a hard pull and you are eligible even if you recently (or currently) carry the card the offer is for.  Another good thing is that any spend you have already done on the card should count towards the free night spend.  So if you have $5,000 in spend on your no fee Hilton and upgrade to the Surpass you would only need to complete $10,000 more in spend, not $15,000, to earn the free night certificate.

Let me know in the comments if you were targeted.

  1. Could I sign up for a Aspire card now then upgrade my Surpass to Aspire with targeted email? Could I get two subs?

  2. I got targeted at the end of July and the end of August to upgrade from the no annual fee card to the surpass for 100K points for 3k spend in 3 months. I’m going to pass since I haven’t had the card before.

  3. lol
I’m amused how you have the photo of the New York Hilton Times Square now fully closed and out of business 🙂 One of Hilton’s to many point devaluations casualties.
Of course the pandemic was the final nail in the coffin that did them in
Their investors with whom I spoke with years ago actually challenged Hilton at one point after their push back from many of their regulars who left over redemption value/devaluation
Of course Hilton ignored and kept raising the cost for customers to redeem and printing more HH point currency in the way of bigger bonuses to attract guests. That’s why almost everything decent in the program is now 60 to 100k a night minimum and up.Gotta love it
That said the HH Aspire is a great card if you stay in their properties

  4. Yeah, I got an e mail a couple of days ago for the Surpass offer. Doubt that I’ll bite. The bonus requires more spending than simply signing up for the card and getting the new card bonus. (I have not held the Surpass card before.)

I think it is more interesting in that it shows how short American Express is falling in getting people to sign up for Hilton cards.

  5. So question on this:
I currently have a Surpass (fka Ascend) and a “free” HHonors card (fka Citi). If I receive the upgrade offer on my free card, AmEx is tacitly saying I can have 2 x Surpass cards and receive the free night twice in a year if I spend $15K on each?
