New Offers for Amtrak Cards

Improved Offer for Amtrak Card

First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) is the issuer of Amtrak credit cards after taking of the portfolio from Bank of America last year.

Now they are once again offering an increased bonus for the Amtrak Guest Rewards Preferred Mastercard, which can earn you 40,000 points. These points are quite valuable, so the bonus can be worth up to $1,000. Let’s see the details.

The Offer

Update: Amtrak reached out and said the 40K offer is not supposed to be live until February 21, 2024, however it is showing on the below link and they will honor the higher bonus if you apply through that page before that date.

  • Earn 40,000 bonus points after making at least $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 billing cycles of account opening.
  • Annual Fee: $99
  • DIRECT LINK TO OFFER

Card Highlights

  • Earn 3 points per $1 spent on Amtrak travel purchases, and 2 points on dining and travel, including transit and rideshare
  • Round-trip companion coupon upon account opening and card anniversary
  • One-class upgrade upon account opening and card anniversary
  • Station lounge pass upon account opening and card anniversary
  • 20% rebate on Amtrak onboard food and beverage purchases in the form of a statement credit
  • 5% point rebate when you book Amtrak reward travel
  • Earn tier status faster with 1,000 TQPs (Tier Qualifying Points) each time you make $5,000 in qualifying purchases

Conclusion

If you use Amtrak often, then this can be a great welcome bonus. Amtrak Guest Rewards points are valued between 2 and 3 cents each, so this bonus can easily be worth about $1,000.

The spending requirement is also low compared to most credit card bonuses. You just need to spend $2,000 within the first three billing cycles. That’s up a $1,000 from the last time we saw this bonus, but it is still good value.

Let us know in the comments if you plan to apply, or how much you value the Amtrak Guest Rewards program.

  1. 40,000 Amtrak points is about as high as they go. They offered 50k about 6 years ago. Treat yourself to a Roomette between Denver and California on the Zephyr. All meals, are included.

For a shorter ride, take the Coast Starlight from LA to the SF Bay area.

I’ve done these trips, and suggest you do too.

  2. If I had the amtrak card issued by Bank of America (but I closed the card at the 11 mo mark), can I apply for this card and get the points or do I have to wait x years from the time I closed the bank of america amtrak card?
