Las Vegas Says Large Venues Can Require Vaccination
Government officials this week said that large venues in Las Vegas can require vaccination as a way to avoid mask mandates. Nevada has a state mask mandate in place. We originally reported on the return to masks here. As a way around requiring every single person in a large venue to wear a mask, mandatory vaccination proof can be used.
On Monday, Governor Sisolak said that large venues (4,000 people or more) can choose what protective measure they want to use. They can follow the mask mandate, or they can require vaccination. Anyone who cannot provide proof of full vaccination (such as partially vaccinated or children) must still wear a mask in the venue. Only those who are fully vaccinated would be allowed to remove their masks during inside events, and only in large venues of 4,000+ capacity.
The Las Vegas Raiders have taken note. They announced that all fans at home games will be required to present proof of vaccination. This policy will go into effect on September 13.
Nevada’s decision comes on the heels of New York City, San Francisco, and New Orleans requiring anyone entering a restaurant, gym, or other indoor venue to present proof of vaccination.
This decision also is a response to multiple U.S. government agencies advising against travel to Las Vegas, as of last month. This is due to the rise of Covid cases in Las Vegas, especially the new, highly transmissible Delta variant.
