Credit Card News & Notes

  • The Chase Freedom increased $200 bonus is ending tomorrow. I wrote a detailed analysis about the offer here. Keep in mind that Chase has made it much tougher to get approved for Freedom and other Ultimate Rewards cards, so check out their new rules before applying.
  • American Express has extended the increased bonus on the SimplyCash Business card through September 21. The offer gives $250 in cashback after $5k in spend during the first 3 months. This is actually a decent Amex Business card since it carries no annual fee and has access to lucrative Amex Offers. (Not to mention 5% back at office supply stores.) Now with the bonus extended, you don’t have to worry about rushing to apply for it.

Posts That Caught My Eye

Almost There With The 20k Challenge And Outing A Method That I Did For $5000 Spend

He is almost done meeting his $20k spending goal. That is all nice and good, but he also explains a very good strategy that he used to meet $5k of it. While it won’t work at this second, that strategy could return at some point in time. Definitely worth reading.

I’m Gonna Recommend You Don’t Stay at the Park Hyatt Maldives During the Holidays…

$570 per person for dinner on New Year’s Eve and other ridiculous meal charges at the Park Hyatt Maldives. Remember this resort is on its own island, so its not like there are many options. Oh and that $570 only includes house wine, beer and a champagne reception! Not even an open bar.

Chasing Ultimate Rewards: My revised strategy

Greg the Frequent Miler has changed his strategy for earning Ultimate Rewards because of the new rules from Chase. I agree with his assertions and actually plan to write something about this later in the week. From a business perspective I think this move was very smart from Chase and Greg’s post is evidence of that.

Great Deals

entertainment

  • I snuck this into an earlier post after publishing, but for those who missed it, Entertainment.com is selling their Entertainment books for only $6 when you use the code MISSYOU6. You can save even more by going through a portal. I often use these books when traveling and at this price, one coupon more than pays for the book. UPDATE: The MISSYOU6 code is now dead, however you can get the books for $8.99 with the code SAVE.
  • Groupon has a $10 Starbucks eGift card for $5. It seems if you have purchased a similar deal recently you may not be eligible. These offers don’t tend to last so shop away! You can also utilize a portal with this one.

Have a great evening!

  1. It’s probably been 10 years since I got one of the Entertainment books. Is there a site or list somewhere of the coupons available and the best ways to maximize the deals? Thanks!
