A Response from Amex Regarding Problems with Bluebird & Walmart Buck$
Yesterday I wrote about the many problems people have had when redeeming Walmart Buck$ from their Bluebird card. While Walmart has yet to respond to my inquiry, a representative from American Express read the post and sent me a response with some more information and suggestions for getting help. The email says:
- Bluebird is here for our customers – our servicing reps are specifically trained on Savings Catcher and Walmart Buck$. In partnership with Walmart, we are happy to help educate our customers on how to use the features and troubleshoot issues.
- Customers can call the Bluebird customer service number: US – 1 (877) 486-5990; International Collect: 1 (801) 449-4016
- Customers can also review the Walmart Buck$ FAQs which addresses many user questions and provides the number to our customer service center: https://www.bluebird.com/faqs?linknav=us-Prepaid-Bluebird-Home-Faqs#walmart-bucks
- Additionally, customers can access Savings Catcher FAQs: https://savingscatcher.walmart.com/faq
Please note, Walmart Buck$ can only be spent by the primary account holder. On occasion, it may take a few hours for the 2x bonus to be processed and applied to the Walmart Buck$ balance. There is also no requirement to have funds in your main Bluebird Account in order to spend Walmart Buck$ at Walmart. When checking out at Walmart stores, Walmart Buck$ will be spent first and if there are not enough funds in the main account to cover the cost of the transaction, the cashier will give the customer the option to split the tender with another form of payment.
Conclusion
So according to American Express there is no requirement to have normal funds on your Bluebird card. I also had another reader let me know that the reason her card was being declined was cashier error, so that may be the source of the problem.
Up to this points there has been a lot of misinformation out there and some people still don’t have a solution, but it seems like American Express wants to help. For anyone having issues, I suggest giving them a call. At least at this point we know that they have read about all of your problems. Have a great weekend!

I have not had problems in the past, but now the website will not let me transfer my balance to my Bluebird card.
I can not find a number for tech support. The FAQ’s don’t help, very frustrating
Twice now I have tried to spend my Walmart bucks and the cashier says it is declined with a zero balance. While the bluebird site says I have 12.91 left…why does it keep doing this
The issue I am having is using the WalMart Bucks that are on my BlueBird card. I have no use for the BlueBird account itself, but since I work next to a Wal-Mart, I am pretty much there several times a week and loved the 2X savings, until they expired. I used to be able to just scan the BlueBird card as a Wal-Mart gift card and it would deduct whatever was on it. Now, I can’t get it to work no matter how I swipe it (Self Checkout). I have just started redeeming to Gift Card and printing the gift card out to put in my wallet. Much easier just to scan that and be done with it. Fortunately I have less than $1 on the BlueBird card that I can’t figure out how to use. Waste of time now that the 2X savings is gone. Might as well just get the printable gift card.
I HAVE BEEN USING THE WALLMAT SAVINGS CATCHER AND HAVE $24 IT SAYS, SO I GOT A BLUEBIRD ACCOUNT AND CAN NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO PUT THE $24 ON MY BLUEBIRD CARD, THERE ARE NOT INSTRUCTIONS ANYWHERE…SIGH
You have to go to the Savings Catcher section of the Walmart website. Once logged in, you should see an option to transfer to Bluebird.
no, there is no option to transfer. I have looked and looked. at this time it says I have redeemed $24.09 and I have not used any of this money yet…not sure what I am doing wrong..
Why isn’t my walmart app showing anything about redeeming my money to my bluebird card? It isn’t even giving me anything to where I can click on my bluebird acc.
For some reason they removed that option from the app, however you can still transfer to Bluebird online.
I have been trying to redeem my points to my bluebird card from the mobile app and receive a message saying sorry and try again in an hour. I have also tried going to the website to redeem these points and when I click to redeem them the screens reacts as if it’s going to process and the nothing really happens. Does anyone know of a fix for this?
[…] Update: If you are still having issues after following the instructions in this post, I have received a response from American Express about how to reach them for help. You can find their response here. […]
Well, went to transfer funds to my bluebird account from Walmart tonight and option is no longer available. Only walmart gift card now! JUST GREAT!
I had the same problem. If you are trying to do so via your mobile phone, try uninstalling the walmart savings catcher app then reinstalling. I just did it and was able to redeem to my bluebird account again.
Well, went to transfer funds to my bluebird account from Walmart tonight and option is no longer available. Only walmart gift card now! JUST GREAT! Can you guys help me? I need to transfere money from my Walmart to my bluebird.
Are you doing it in the app? If so, try to do it on the website. That has worked for others.
