Retention Offer for Free Night Award Worth 50K Points

Retention calls are an annual ritual for many people in this hobby. If you have a card with an annual fee, it’s always a good idea to call the bank on the cardmembership anniversary and check if they have an offer for you.

This is especially useful for credit cards that come with valuable perks, but also high annual fees. One of those cards is the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express card that has a $650 annual fee. A good offer usually makes a difference in the decision to close or keep the card for one more year.

In the past we have seen many different retention offers varying from 3,000 to 65,000 bonus points, or up to a $300 statement credit. But now one of our readers shared an interesting data point with an offer I had never seen before, a free night.

During his retention call he was given two options. One was for a $200 credit or and the other for a Free Night Certificate worth up to 50,000 points, after spending $1,500 in 3 months.

Conclusion

I found this data points interesting as I have never seen a free night offered as a retention bonus on the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card or any other hotel cards for that matter.

Have you received any similar offers? And which one would you choose if it was you? Let us know in the comments!
