World Of Hyatt Customer Service Helps You When The Website Doesn’t

As far as I’m concerned, World of Hyatt customer service is the best of the major hotel loyalty programs. I want to share a short story about how the phone reps at World of Hyatt customer service helped me get around website issues and meet the rules for a booking I wanted to make in a creative way. This is where “customer service” really shines.

The Problem

I previously mentioned my love for the Brand Explorer perk with the World of Hyatt program. In sum: Hyatt has 18 different brands. Stay at 5 different ones, get a free night certificate. So, when we go to a new property, I like to cut the reservation in half. This way, my wife and I both get credit for Brand Explorer.

The problem is that we wanted to book a hotel (a Destination brand) for 3 nights on a holiday weekend. There’s a 3-night minimum that weekend. Try as I might, the website didn’t offer any ways to book 2 nights from one account and 1 night from the other.

The Solution

I called World of Hyatt and asked if there’s a way to book it as one reservation for the 3 nights, since we want 3 nights and the property requires 3 nights that weekend. This would meet the rule. But what I really want is for both of us to get credit for Brand Explorer.

The World of Hyatt customer service rep I spoke to (shout out to Desiree!) knew all about the Brand Explorer perk. She said she could easily make a split reservation. The website doesn’t allow this, but phone agents can do it. Desiree put my wife’s account on 2 nights and mine on 1 night. We used points from my wife’s account and then will pay cash for the last night, linked to my account and using my World of Hyatt Credit Card. We’ll both get credit. Cool!

Final Thoughts

It never hurts to ask. Even when the website doesn’t let you do something, customer service reps often have access to solutions that creatively meet the rules while achieving the customer’s desired end state. If you run into an issue trying to book back-to-back/split reservations, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or even reach out to Hyatt on Twitter (they reply super fast). Turns out you can book a split reservation by phone to meet the “minimum nights” requirement around holidays.

    • How does this remotely classify as a scam? Perhaps you meant to comment on something else and commented this here by mistake.

    • Moe – called customer service for World of Hyatt 800 304 9288. The number on your credit card can only help you with your card, not hotel bookings.

  1. Hyatt is simply the best program out there. Its the only program I really keep pushing myself to keep top status (Globalist). I let my Marriott Titanium expire. My Hilton Diamond doesn’t mean anything to me anymore. IHG Spire Elite is worthless. Hyatt Globalist is still the best program out there. GREAT customer service.

  2. It’s a shame that other hotel chains don’t realize the value of excellent customer service. A call to Hyatt always results in a quick, pleasant resolution of any reservation issues. That’s why I hope Hyatt will be best equipped to weather the pandemic, the fires and the floods we’ve been hit with this year.
