Learning From Those Who Are Willing To Teach
Life moves by so quickly. So often people get caught up chasing the so called American Dream and forget to do what inspires them until it is too late. It is important to find inspiration in life wherever we can.
For me, inspiration often comes from those who are older. Those people who have lived and have the benefit of hindsight. They often tell me about the mistakes they made and what they wish that they had done differently. The greatest gift I can give to myself is to listen and heed their advice.
The other day I came across a list called, “The Top 37 Things Dying People Say They Regret”. While I usually don’t share these types of lists, I found this one to be pretty powerful. I will share a few of my favorites here and then I highly recommend clicking over to read the rest.
My Favorite Items From The List
1.) Not traveling when you had the chance. Traveling gets harder as you get older, as more people depend on your presence, day-to-day and it ends up becoming more expensive to bring more people with you.
This is something I hear all of the time from people. So many people put off their big dream trip for some unknown date that never comes.
6.) Being afraid to do things. Fear can paralyze us, but we can’t let it.
This is something that we can all relate to. Sometimes we freeze with worry and often miss out on incredible opportunities.
13.) Not listening to your parents’ advice. They have a lot more experience than you’ll want to give them credit for.
Someone should tell this to my son! =)
18.) Holding grudges, especially against those you love. Choose to let go of your pain, instead of dwelling on it.
As they say, “Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”
37.) Not being grateful sooner. Learn to say thanks and learn to mean it. So many parts of your life will improve if you do.
I am so blessed and am grateful for what I have. My life has been full of opportunities that so many others simply don’t have. I try to be grateful in the moment as often as possible, but it takes effort to continually improve!
Closing
I wish I could say that I am 100% when it comes to living the advice on this list, but of course I cannot. Opening my eyes to things like these and being aware of what I need to work on is so important. I look for inspiration wherever I can find it and this list has definitely provided some for me.
My goal here is to inspire you and show how you can take amazing trips. The kind of trips that others put off until “sometime” in the future. You can read the entire list here. Please let me know in the comments which ones are your favorites.
