Amex Annual Fees Charged In Error
Banks will often have annoying glitches from time to time. It isn’t surprising, since many of their IT setups are a decade or more behind the times. They are credit card companies after all, and not tech firms, so I guess we can’t expect too much there. Sometimes there are issues with credits or welcome offers not posting right, other times it is an issue with finance charges etc. This time around people are seeing some Amex annual fees charged in error, at least for some Delta Gold cardholders.
What Is Happening?
It appears that some newer Amex Delta Gold and Amex Delta Gold Business cardholders are having annual fees charged in error. Both cards offer a waived annual fee in the first year, which usually makes them the most compelling cards in the Delta lineup for the first year. The problem is that some newer cardmembers are seeing the $150 annual fee hitting their account. That changes the value proposition in the first year quite a bit, but it should be correctable.

How To Get It Corrected
This is no doubt an error on American Express’ part. I hope that they are able to patch this issue fairly quickly so they don’t start racking up affected people. If you were one of the cardholders caught up in this then I would reach out to Amex via chat. You can tell them that you were wrongly charged an annual fee in your first cardmember year. They will likely open a case on the matter, and hopefully you see a credit somewhat quickly. I wouldn’t be surprised if you would be credited in due time without doing anything too. Hey, sometimes being lazy pays off!
Amex Annual Fees Charged In Error: Final Thoughts
It is annoying when things happen that shouldn’t. It ends up costing us time and undue stress because of something that is out of our control. Plus, we are rarely compensated for the time wasted or aggravation caused by these issues too. Hopefully this issue of Amex annual fees charged in error should be a somewhat easy fix.
It just goes to show that we need to be our own biggest advocates. No one else is going to do it for us after all! It is also a good reminder to always check your statements for errors or nefarious charges. Let me know if you were caught up in this down below or over in the MTM Facebook Group.
