Amex Platinum Global Entry Fee Credit How Long

Do you have an Amex Platinum Global Entry fee credit and are wondering how long it will take to post once you pay for your application? You have come to the right place!

Global Entry Is Great

I really love Global Entry. In recent years Mobile Passport has sped up the regular line when reentering the U.S., but Global Entry is quicker. Additionally I receive TSA Precheck almost 100% of the time which is very important given how much I travel.

While some think Global Entry is only for people who travel internationally a lot, I beg to differ. Many credit cards offer a credit for the $100 Global Entry application fee, so it often makes sense to sign up the whole family! I even signed up Ellie when she was just a baby. That was a fun interview!

Amex Platinum Global Entry Credit

One of the most popular cards that gives a Global Entry credit is the American Express Platinum card. Recently I have had a few readers ask how long does it take for the Amex Platinum Global Entry fee credit to post. Thankfully I recently had to renew my Global Entry and used my Amex Platinum card to pay the fee.

Renewing Global Entry

The American Express Platinum card gives you up to a $100 fee credit towards Global Entry every 4.5 years. Since Global Entry membership is good for 5 years, this allows you time to renew before it expires. I have a lot of cards that give a Global Entry credit, however I used my Amex Platinum since I had not used this card previously.

To renew my membership I logged onto the government’s Trusted Traveler website, clicked Global Entry and logged into my existing account. I then filled out all of the information for the Global Entry application and then paid the $100 fee with my American Express Platinum card. The application went to pending, however the charge went through immediately.

Conclusion

If you don’t have Global Entry I highly recommend it. Whenever I travel alone or with my family domestically we get TSA Precheck almost 100% of the time and we often get through customs in less than 5 minutes as well. Considering it doesn’t cost anything after receiving the Amex Platinum Global Entry fee credit, it is a no-brainer in my opinion.

  1. I applied to renew my Global Entry on May21.
The AMEX Platinum charge appeared the same day.
As of May 24 my renewal application is still marked as Pending Review and the credit has yet to appear on my account.

  2. Thanks for the information. I’m about to renew for my wife and I. How does it work with appointments when renewing?

    • When filling out the app it will have language indicating you need to do an interview. I know a lot of people who have done this and rarely are you asked back for an interview. With that said, it is possible they will want to interview you again. You won’t know until your application is reviewed. That seems to be taking awhile.
