I have come to a few realizations during recent conversations with others about our upcoming trip. First off, traveling for more than a short term vacation seems like a scary and foreign idea to most people. The fact that our family can and chooses to travel like this seems to blow their minds. Secondly, I am realizing that I think differently than most people. Finding ways to hit the road and discover new people and places is almost always on the top of my mind.
I am not saying that other people don’t aspire to achieve a longer and deeper travel experience. In fact, I believe many people put their travel dreams off to some unknown future time. Societal norms in America almost dictate that we convince ourselves that travel during retirement is the only way. I certainly don’t want to backpack through Central America, hangout with interesting characters in Southeast Asia, or discover new corners of Africa when I am old. I know it is better to do these things now when my body can handle it and when I can shape the mind and life of my son.
While it may seem I am speaking of these societal norms as someone who has all of the answers, my struggles to stay out of the grasp of societal paradigms have been frequent. I have several times over the past few years been sucked back into the rat race mentality. Unfortunately one of the side effects of this type of life for me is the loss of inspiration. This is dangerous and unfulfilling to say the least.
I plan to thoroughly communicate my thoughts and realizations about travel and life as we embark and experience our next adventure. With that said, I want to publicly state my gratitude for the ability and willingness to fight for this opportunity. This trip is only happening because my wife and I let it happen. We could have come up with thousands of different reasons as to why we shouldn’t go, but doing that would only cheat our family out of this rare opportunity.
If you are one of those people who are blown away that a family can travel for a long period of time then keep reading. I will show you how you can eliminate a great portion of your flight and hotel costs. I will show you how easy it is to home school your kids and what the advantages of this type of travel are for them and the family unit as a whole. Please stick around here because we are leaving on our next adventure in 17 days and I promise to share all of the fun in the hopes that it inspires you to follow your dreams whether they relate to travel or something else!
