Last Chance to Take Advantage of Bonus Miles on Amex Transfers

Last Chance to Take Advantage of Bonus Miles on Amex Transfers to JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic

Today is the last day to get a bonus on transfers from Amex Membership Rewards to Jetblue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. If you choose to transfer your MR points, you’ll need to do so by 11:59 p.m. MT on November 30, 2017 (that’s tonight). Let’s take a quick look at both offers.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Transfer Bonus

Transfer Amex Membership Points to Virgin Atlantic and receieve a 30% transfer bonus. While this deal may not be worthy of a point transfer just to stock up, this may still be a great deal for some. See here for a more detailed analysis. This bonus allows you to redeem Membership Rewards Points for Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club Miles at a rate of 1:1.3. This represents a 30% bonus on the usual rate. For every 1,000 points you transfer, you’ll receive 1300 miles.

This is a good deal for anyone who was planning on using Flying Club miles for a specific redemption or who uses the program regularly and will have a redemption option in the near future. For example, if you’re booking a Delta flight, you can use your Virgin Miles to book on Delta for way less Skymiles than you would need. There are also partner awards with ANA in their terrific first class cabin that represent an excellent value.

JetBlue TrueBlue Transfer Bonus

Transfer Amex Membership Points to JetBlue and receive a 25% transfer bonus. The normal transfer rate is 250:200, with this promotion the rate increases to 250:250. This is another situation where I wouldn’t be transferring them without a specific use in mind because your MR points are some of the most valuable and flexible out there.

This could be a good option for using Membership Rewards for those who live near a JetBlue hub and fly Jetblue regularly. TrueBlue points are worth about 1.5 cents each, but you can get a higher value out of them when using the JetBlue Mint business-class product or for international travel.

Conclusion

If you have trips planned or just need to pad your balances a bit for inevitable travel, make sure you do it today in order to receive the bonus. Based on how valuable Amex points are, I wouldn’t want to transfer them without the bonus. The other other thing to keep in mind is that these seem to be recurring offers, so there’s a good possibility you’ll have more opportunities to take advantage.
