New Amex Platinum Welcome Offer Is Out Of This World Good
For a decade or more the 100K Platinum offer has been a thing of legends. It is the mythical beast very few have been able to slay. There have been leaked offers in the past that people jumped on, and Amex does go on a targeting spree from time to time, but most people refresh CardMatch every few months to be smacked in the face with disappointment. Well, with the new Amex Platinum welcome offer that launched yesterday there is no need to wait it out any longer. I think this offer will be better for most people. Let’s take a look at the details.
New Amex Platinum Welcome Offer
The offer is as follows:
Earn 75,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $5,000 in the first 6 months
Get 20% back at restaurants up to $300 ($1,500 in spend) in the first 12 months.
Earn 10x points on up to $15,000 in combined purchases at Gas Stations and Supermarkets during their first 6 months of card membership.
$550 annual fee is not waived
Amex Platinum Earning Structure
Earn 5X Membership Rewards on airfare (booked directly with the airline or through Amex Travel). This will be capped at $500,000 per year starting 1/1/21.
Earn 5X Membership Rewards on prepaid hotels booked on Amex Travel
1 Amex Membership Rewards point per dollar on everything else
Amex Platinum Card Perks
Let’s take a quick look at what the Amex Platinum offers in terms of yearly perks & credits:
Let’s take a look at the value of this offer and compare it to the 100K offer. Since this offer comes with a 75,000 Membership Rewards points welcome offer we are only dealing with a 25,000 point gap. Here is what you get instead of the additional 25,000 points.
10X on gas and groceries up to $15,000 within the first 6 months.
That is potentially 150,000 Membership Rewards points.
Spending only $417 per month in these categories is your breakeven point to make up the 25,000 point difference. Anything above that, or $2,500 in total, is simply gravy.
20% back at restaurants up to $300 back. This is capped at $1500 or only $125 over 12 months. That should be easy enough for most people to hit.
This would be like buying 25,000 Membership Rewards points at 1.2 cents a piece when considering the difference in the offers.
Each one of these will do the trick to cover the gap in the offers but when you put them together you are coming out well ahead. Let’s say you spend $600 a month in gas and groceries and hit the restaurant spend. That is 135,000 Membership Rewards points and $300 in credit when it is all said and done.
Play around with the numbers depending on your particular spending habits and see how they work out for you. I think most people will come out in the black with this offer.
I will give a word of caution about gaming the 10X earning. Many of you reading this could easily max out the $15,000 in spend for 150,000 points. Just remember what happened with a much less costly, to Amex, Hilton offer this summer. I wouldn’t play around with it myself.
This offer is insane and one I think anyone that has never had an Amex Platinum should jump on. It is even worth a 5/24 spot in my opinion, assuming you are not right at 4/24. If that is the case grab a Chase card first, or one of the increased Ink card offers 😁, then move onto this offer. Hopefully we see this hit the personal referrals sometime soon. You may wanna wait a bit to see if you are in a two player system, add a cherry on top!
Who is grabbing the new Amex Platinum welcome offer? Are you done waiting for the 100K offer and ready to jump on this better offer? Let me know in the comments.

Although the SUB is great and the bonus category. I find it hard to pull the trigger on this one. In addition to RAT watching the bonus spend, I know they also frown upon not keeping the card long term and I personally don’t see this a good long term card.
I think I’m going to pull the trigger but I’ve been reading that AMEX RAT are going to be watching this like a hawk. No way your average consumer can spend $2500/month on grocery/gas with organic spend
Trigger Pulled! Thanks for posting this offer =)
Congrats Mia! What an awesome offer.

Not unless they have a business and use it for that. I did find the cap interesting since they will fight tooth and nail with anyone that hits it.
That is a great offer. Are the 20% back and the 10x points a new benefit for the platinum or just for this offer?
Just this specific offer.
What’s the 2 player system?
If you have a spouse, friend or significant other that you can refer back and forth with.
