This is just a quick note to let everyone know that I am on vacation in Europe this week and posts will be a bit more infrequent. I do have some content to share with everyone, however my internet luck the past couple of days has been about as bad as can be. In one word SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW.
Today we took the train up from Barcelona to Disneyland Paris and stopped in the town of Nîmes for a two hour connection. Nîmes is a pretty amazing city and a beautiful one as well. The best part was discovering the ancient Roman arena in town. It was Ellie’s first Roman ruin and she had a blast running around outside. Despite the sad news of the day, it was a pure moment of joy.
It just goes to show that you can find awesome treasures just about everywhere in the world. I am ashamed to say I didn’t know about the arena in Nîmes, but I was so excited to find it since I cannot get enough of Ancient Rome. Nîmes is definitely on my list for future travels to Southern France along with so many other seemingly charming towns and cities.
Tomorrow we celebrate Ellie’s first birthday on the actual day at Disneyland Paris. Spoiled? Nope!?!? Ok, just a little. 😉 Have a great night and talk to you soon!

Nearby Nimes is Arles. (another arena). The land of Vincent Van Gough. Smaller town than Nimes but filled with ancient Rome. I recently just discovered by chance a small roman bridge near a hill town in Provence. Since I had no idea it was there it was one of those moments of verbal excitement with the OMG. small, hidden and a jewel. Be safe from a fellow Roman enthusiast.
Memories like this remind you why it’s worth all the effort. Safe travels to you and yours Shawn!
The Pont du Gard near Nimes is pretty amazing as well. It’s a trek to get there (if I remember, since I was there 15 years ago), but definitely worth it.
Carcassonne, France, has a way-cool castle with a fascinating story involving a pig. It’s worth a visit.
If you enjoy shopping or need grocery type items make sure to take the train over to the Val d’Europe (next stop down from Disney Paris). Big shopping mall and huge high end outlet shopping center as well. Fun but suburban area.
We actually stayed in a hotel near the mall which also had a free shuttle to Disney. Nice area!
