Second Stimulus Check Proposal

Many people are still waiting on their first stimulus checks, however the U.S. House of Representatives is already working towards sending more relief to Americans. House Democrats have put forth a bill that will provide another round of stimulus funds to Americans with many getting even more money than before.

The HEROES Act – Second Stimulus Check Proposal

Today House Democrats introduced the HEROES Act which is a second stimulus proposal aimed at supporting the economy and putting money in the pockets of most Americans. The $1,200 stimulus payment returns in the HEROES Act, however there are some changes including a few that are very good for families. (More $$$)

Here is how the new stimulus would work under the HEROES Act:

  • Individual taxpayers will receive $1,200 while couples who file jointly will receive $2,400
  • Parents will receive an additional $1,200 per dependent up to a maximum of 3 dependents

That means a family of five would potentially receive a second stimulus check for $6,000 if the HEROES Act passes. This is in addition to any funds received in the original stimulus. This new stimulus also has two changes that many were calling for. Previously only dependents 17 or under counted, while under this new plan there are no age restrictions for dependents. Immigrants are included in this new stimulus as well.

New Stimulus Check – Income Requirements Largely the Same

Just like with the original stimulus there is an income cap for receiving federal funds. Couples making more than $150,000, heads of households making more than $112,500 and single filers making more than $75K will have their stimulus reduced or eliminated depending on their exact income.

Who Is Eligible for the New Stimulus?

The HEROES Act specifically defines who qualifies for the new stimulus as an “eligible individual”.

Everyone is eligible for the new stimulus under the HEROES Act except the following:

  • Any nonresident alien individual
  • Anyone who can be claimed as a dependant by someone else
  • Estates and/or trusts

More Information on the HEROES Act

The HEROES Act is available from the House website and is a good read for anyone who is looking to know more details about who will be eligible for the proposed second stimulus and what it might look like in other ways. You can find the full text of the HEROES Act here.

Second Stimulus Check Proposal – Bottom Line

The U.S. House of Representatives will begin debating what the next stimulus will look like. The HEROES Act is the framework the Democrats want to use to deliver a new stimulus to Americans, however there are likely to be changes before it fully passes Congress.

  1. Why would you think $1200 would help if you all realized it didn’t really help as much the first time. To help the economy putting money in the American peoples pocket would mean more money into the businesses. It’s so simple

  2. We need the money now Americans are Starving no money to pay there Bills. This country is in a Sh—t hole food prices going up the Covid19 going up with death and cases are just SADD.Help Help

  3. The government should pass another Stimulus Check for everyone who is a United States citizen. I think that all essentially workers should get doubled the money. Because all of the hard work. We are in a great, Great Depression everyone needs the Support because our states are in the worst shape ever. Keep strong/ Be Safe !!!

I am grateful for the first $1200 stimulus but that was not enough to even make a dent in our daily living and bill’s. We need more financial help to just catch up. But I am a Christian and not afraid to say “thank you” but we do need a little more financial help from our government

  5. I think that everyone should get a stimulus check because everyone needs it. I’m one the few that didn’t get the first stimulus check because someone claim me on their taxes and i think that’s wrong because we didn’t know that this pandemic was going to happen. I’m very upset with the government and president Trump about this, I’m on a fixed income i get a Social Security check every month and i deserve to get a stimulus check I’m very upset with the decision that they made about the checks. So if the Senate of the house decide to give out a second stimulus check let it be for everybody including the ones that was file on someone else taxes as a dependent OK

  6. This proposal also extends money to illegal aliens and gives the big dollars needed for a bailout to bankrupt states like Illinois, New York and California and their insane pension plans. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

  7. There needs to be a way to give to those who really need it and not give to those who don’t. We have been blessed to have been working at an essential job and there are others out there not getting anything. Why don’t they find out who really needs help and give it to them.

  8. IM great full of what we received but this is not over with yet so I think we all should pray I think helping families with children not having jobs is a big help we need to hang on for the hard times and pray it won’t get worst

  9. Yes we need another round or two of direct payments to American families because many are one wake up from being homeless. One bedroom apartments are 1,200 to 1,800 and if you’re in a house you have mortgage, electric, water, gas, property taxes, insurance, food etc. So it makes sense to issue more money but not a one time thing again make it 1200 a month for 3 to 6 months.

  10. It’s not enough!! The reason is the Rent is a lot more then that for most people especially in New York and with No money coming in for cell phone and food utility. The poor people on Medicaid is in need of more money. What happen to the 2000$ a stimulus amount? Is there going to be an extended unemployment or is that not going to happen until January? Can you please give everyone 2000$ a month it’s a more relief bill? Stay healthy and safe! ❤️

  11. I understand some need it. And if they do then I hope they get it. Not everyone needs a 2nd stimulus. And I plan to vote against trump.

  12. No unemployment coming in yet. Cost of food going up higher. Pretty soon the other half of property taxes will be due. Struggling and fear this will be my life for years to come. Theyve helped the big guys. Helped with small businesses twice now. This is going to be a struggle for years to come for people losing jobs, losing FINANCIAL SECURITY!!! Another $1200 will pay for food and maybe electrjc bill,. It helps. Things are going to get worse before they get better. As for giving those in healthcare a bonus? You already have given to hospitals. They should be sharing that with their employees. “ALL” essential workers should be treated equally. They have all put themsrlves out there at risk. I know for a fact some companys have given their employees a bonus for their efforts and help at work. Struggling factories cant afford workers getting anything extra however they are essential. They go to work daily standing 6 ft apart with mask on. I have family and know this. Greatly appreciate “all” essential workers but a bonus should include everyone not just specifiv essential employees. If this second stimulus passes, I worry what will happen two months, 6 months, or more from now. Are we going to be begging for more? What will the economy look like? What about all these job losses? Will we ever be able to go back to normal?

  13. Amazes me how people are so quick to judge and take a position without knowing the facts. And to throw it out there I’m fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

Trickle down economics doesn’t work. We are a consumer driven economy and trickle up economics is much more likely to have a positive impact on the economy. Also fact the amount of money going to main street versus wall street now and 2017+ is peanuts. It’s pennies on the dollar in comparison.

I’m not a fan of a lot going on these days, including punishing the savers. We’re pushing hard against that title as world reserve currency and trying to print our way out of it. I’m more worried about what the FED and treasury are going to do to asset prices and subsequent devaluation in a zero rate environment than I am about people on the ground getting money that’s highly likely to be put back into circulation one way or the other.

I’m not here to judge if it’s right or wrong but people are hurting and if we as a society want to continue to flatten the curve so that hospitals can maintain resources and supplies to provide high level care then we need to protect society as a whole even if you view caring for them as a means to an end.

So what do I think? Take care of people on the ground so that they can continue to pay their rent and buy goods and services to keep small businesses afloat. We have the most financial leverage of any country right now and it makes sense economically to control the narrative as much as humanly possible so that we can move on with a new normal. But we can’t do that if we don’t even know what we’re dealing with and have people ready to riot in the streets because they cannot afford to sit at home without money coming in.

  14. This stimulus is BS. Still doesn’t address the fact that someone may have made over 75k last year and has now lost their job. At the same time I know plenty of people who still have their jobs and are working as if nothing has changed and are getting thousands from this. Democrats just want to hand out money to lower income people and hope it gets them votes in November. They don’t care that the money goes to the wrong people.

  15. Good grief. This is INSANE.
    Where.Does.The.Money.Come.From???

How out of touch can politicians be?
Are they just trying to buy votes at this point?

I say vote for dogs and cats in 2020.
They will do better jobs by doing – nothing – than all the idiots we have stealing our money currently.

  16. The Dems are going to continue feeding free money proposals up for vote until Republicans finally say “look we can’t just give out free money indefinitely”. Then the Dems will leverage that “rejection” in the next election.

This is the opinion of my Independent friend who voted against Trump in 2016 and plans to vote against him again in 2020 – in other words it’s coming from a relatively objective source.

Oh yeah, and this opinion also preceded this most recent “second stimulus”.

I tend to agree that this is a wildly transparent political move and think there are more efficient ways to get resources to people who need it during this time.

  17. I personally don’t see them passing another stimulus bill that includes more money for the average person. I have no basis really, just a feeling. It would be awesome if they did though.
