My Results from Speedway’s Latest Promotion

A few weeks ago DDG covered a new Speedway promotion that is currently ongoing and doesn’t end until 6/30/18.  I thought I would give you an update on my progress so far so you have an idea of what is possible.  Especially since there is still time to take advantage of it yourself.

Details on the Promo

I will go over the details briefly of the promo for those of you who missed it the first time around.

  • Buy $100 in select gift cards and get a coupon for a $15 Speedy Cash card.
  • Buy $50 in select gift cards and get a coupon for a $5 Speedy Cash card.

Eligible gift cards include:

  • Amazon
  • Home Depot
  • Lowe’s
  • Netflix
  • Playstation
  • Domino’s
  • Cabela’s
  • Texas Roadhouse.

Key Terms

  • Must Use Speedy Rewards Card
  • Offer valid through 6/30/18

My Results

I focused on Amazon gift cards since they are the most valuable. They are even considered cash equivalents by some people.  I sold most of my cards to a personal contact at 92%. They shop at Amazon often and don’t have a Speedway near them.

This is beneficial to both of us – they get a discount without much effort and I get a quick and reliable payment that lets me increase my bandwidth.  That is important these days; especially with what happened with the The Plastic Merchant. I will also save some for myself for personal use and for those Amazon gift card deals.

There are better rates on Amazon for those of you who have bulk seller relationships but I went with what was reliable and easy.  Here are my figures so far.

  • Amazon Gift Purchases – $1300
  • Speedway Credit – $195
  • Speedy Rewards – 26,000 points worth $25 (Speedway gift card)
  • Credit Card Points – 7800 Hilton Honors points worth at least $31.20
  • Resale of Gift Cards – $1196

I only included the gift cards I have resold so far.  I spent $1300 on Amazon gift cards and received $1447.20 back in points and money for them.  That is an easy return of 11.32%.  Nothing earth shattering but it is an easy deal to take advantage of with almost no risk to me since I have a buyer lined up.

I used the American Express Hilton Ascend for the purchases. This helped me knock off some of the $15,000 in yearly spend I need to do for the annual free night.  Remember that this is a great card for non bonus spend as well as for gas and grocery spend for the first $15,000 each year.

Conclusion

This isn’t the most amazing deal of the year but it may be my favorite.  I like it because it is an easy one to profit from with minimal risk.  Even if you don’t resell the Amazon gift cards you can get essentially 20% off Amazon gift cards for personal use.  This is better than the Staples Amex Offer in my opinion for sourcing Amazon gift cards.

I know some of you are hitting this pretty hard.  Let me know your figures in the comments section!

  1. To clarify, if I use the AX BCE Card (2% Cash Back at U.S. gas stations) IN-STORE @ local Speedway to purchase a single Speedy Cash Fuel Card of $100.00 for gasoline fuel, will it code as ‘gasoline’ on AMEX App? Hence, triggering the AX BCE Card’s ‘2% Cash Back at U.S. gas stations’?

  2. I bought 10 Amazon GC yesterday. For 2 of them, I didn’t get $15 coupon and the receipt said that we are having some trouble loading points and I’ll get the points later. I did get the points loaded into my account today but the $15 coupon for those two transactions are missing. Any idea what I could do to get those?

    • Hmm weird one. Did the employee notice too? May wanna bring it up to the mgr on site or call corporate. That are the only options I see.

    • I had the receipt not print on my second one today but it got added to my account and I was able to use the tablets at the register to redeem – so it may already be on there.

  3. I bought few Home Depot, Amazon and Netflix gift card at Speed Way. Already use $15 Speedway gift card for Gas Purchase. With every $100 worth of gift card you also get $2 worth of Speedway points.
I used Citi Costco Credit Card (not sure if these will be counted as 4% Gas Purchase).

  4. The free speedway card is gold and says “Speedy Cash – Gift – Fuel & Merchandise”. In some, maybe all regions there is a $1 bonus for loading $25 to the gold card. So ask to load $78 and the then scan 5 certificates. It’ll come out to $0.

  5. Thanks for the reply mark. I’m in North Carolina. She said the gift card says it’s not redeemable for fuel, hoping she understood my question. May be it’s the black card then. Anyway, I will call another location and find out if that’s really the case. Will report back my second data point.

    • Yeah I have a feeling she was misinformed. They do alternate between the cards for promos so she may be confused.

  6. Hi Mark – I need to make one large personal purchase on Amazon soon (~$500), so was looking at this promotion. The closest Speedway for me is 20 to 30 minute drive. I called them today to ensure they have this promotion, before I make the trip and pick up few (at least 5) amazon gift cards. The lady there confirmed they do have this promotion. However, she also tells me this promotional “$15 Speedy Cash card” can ONLY be used for store merchandise at Speedway stations and NOT on gas. Do you think that’s correct ? Because I can liquidate these Speedy gift cards on gas, but forced buying of merchandise would be a stretch.

    • What state are you located in? The Speedy Cash cards can be used on gas (gold ones) although someone in our Facebook group said they don’t work for gas for them (Illinois). So I am not sure if it is a state by state thing or what but the gold cards clearly say Fuel and Merchandise so I found it weird. The black cards are for food and stuff in the store only.

  7. Using citi dividend cards to save 5%, then selling the Amazon cards for 95% to a private buyer. Break even on Amazon but getting Speedway points and gift cards.
