United Airlines Transports Masks To New York & New Jersey
United Airlines gets its fair share of negative press, even from us. And they well should with how they have treated customers in the past. Having said that, it is only fair to shed some light on the good they do as well. United Airlines has teamed up with some non profit organizations to transport masks to Covid-19 hot zones, New York and New Jersey.
Details
According to Travel Pulse United has teamed up with nonprofits Airlink and Medshare to deliver 50,000 N95 face masks from San Francisco to the New York and New Jersey areas. Medshare was able to secure the masks from China early last week and then Airlink hooked up with United to get the masks delivered. The 50,000 masks made their much needed arrival to the outbreak hot spots on Thursday.
It appears United has worked with Airlink for about a decade now and provided similar services in the past. Many airlines have re-purposed some of their aircraft to be more suited for cargo runs just like this. It is one of the reasons I said planes continue to fly even when people are sheltering in place and travel has slowed to a mere drip.
Final Thoughts
I know United Airlines is not alone in providing much needed services like this these days but I thought it was a good story to highlight. Getting masks and personal protective equipment to the hospitals and front line medical workers is as important as it gets these days. It is great to see nonprofits and publicly traded companies working together to fill that need.
