United Express WiFi
Yesterday United made a big step towards bringing connectivity towards their many loyal customers by installing WiFi on the 1st of their regional aircraft.
According to the company, they will install Gogo’s ATG-4 advanced product on 200 of their E175, E170 & CRJ700 aircraft. The conversion is expected to be complete on most planes by the middle of 2015.
The Other Carriers
This news comes after American Airlines announced last month that they will be installing WiFi on 250 of their two-class regional aircraft as part of their overall $2 billion investment in the airline. American expects the installation to be finished sometime in 2016.
Of course Delta & US Airways have had WiFi on their regional aircraft for quite some time. With United’s and American’s plans in place, we should see WiFi on the majority of regional aircraft within the next year or so.
Conclusion
I’m sure road warriors who suffer through flights on small jets on a regular basis are thrilled with this development. While I rarely fly on regional aircraft, it is good to know that there will soon be more connnectivity in the skies!
