United Travel Bank Down

Update 1/13/22: The United Travel bank has been keeping us on our toes these last few weeks. It came back a few days after this article was written and the credits have even been posting. But, we started to hear of some issues this afternoon (and reports on Reddit) of people getting an error at the payment screen. We have a couple of solutions for you that were shared during our Spending Podcast live recording tonight in the MtM Diamond group.  If you add your Amex card to your frequent flyer account on United before doing the purchase you should be good. I have also heard that using the app works for some that had issues on a computer.

If you waited until the last minute (even after our many reminders) to use your Amex airline incidental, or other credits, and United Travel Bank was your go to for that you were hit with an end of year let down. The United Travel Bank site has been down for a few days now. There is no word on when it should be back up and running, or if it will at all.  I imagine it will be back but no one knows for sure or when.  This was a favorite of many to burn those airline incidental credits.

If you are like me, and like to use these day one of the year, then you may have to wait a bit longer than normal.  At least if United is your go to option.  If you prefer to just get it over with, because things can change at any point, then here is the way to check current options for each airline. Flyertalk offers the most up to date data points:

Hopefully the United Airlines Travel Bank returns sometime in the near future and remains  a viable option. I know it was a favorite of many. There are still other options available to you with other airlines though, if you decide not to wait.

  1. I had no issues purchasing from it this morning. I used the website, on a previously created account, with a preloaded cc.

  2. In a related note, United’s MPX Chase Visa Rewards program is apparently done. I noticed no offers for quiet some time; reached out; they say it’s been discontinued.
