Multiple Upgrade Offers For Delta Personal Cards, Check Your Accounts!

We have seen a few reports in the Miles to Memories Facebook Group and our Diamond Lounge of people seeing upgrade offers for Delta personal cards. Let’s take a look at the details and let me know if you received anything different and I will add it in.

Update 4/5/21: I added in a Gold to Platinum offer shared with us as well.

Upgrade Offers For Delta Personal Cards

Delta Blue to Delta Gold Upgrade Offer

The Delta Blue card is a no fee Delta card offered by American Express.  Many people will downgrade from the Delta Gold card into it once the second year annual fee hits.  Some of those same people have been targeted to upgrade back to the Gold card. The offer is as follows:

  • Earn 40,000 Delta Skymiles after spending $2,000 within the first 6 months
  • The $99 annual fee is waived the first year

This is a pretty good offer if you have already had the Gold card before.  Remember that upgrade offers do not fall under Amex’s once per lifetime rules.  If you have never had the American Express Gold Delta card then the current welcome offer is a better play.  Unless you are trying to stay away from new accounts for Chase 5/24 or something.

Delta Gold To Platinum Upgrade Offer

Reader Joey commented below that he got this offer on his Business Gold card.  I assume it is going around for personal Gold cardholders as well. The offer is as follows:

  • 50,000 miles and $200 statement credit with 3,000 spend over 6 months.
  • $250 annual fee is no waived.

If you have never had the card before the current 90,000 mile offer is going to offer you more value so I would apply for the Platinum card instead.  But if you have carried the card before jump on this offer.  It is pretty tough to beat 50,000 miles for $50 out of pocket!

Upgrade Offers For Delta Personal Cards

Delta Platinum to Delta Reserve Upgrade Offer

The other offer that has been kicking around is for Delta Platinum cardholders to upgrade to the Delta Reserve card.  This offer is once again best for people that have already had the Reserve card.  That is because the current welcome offer is better than this upgrade offer.  Although the value is closer this time around so upgrading to avoid the new account on your credit report isn’t a bad option either if that is important to you. Here are the offer details:

  • 60,000 miles plus a $300 statement credit after spending $4,000 in the first 6 months.
  • $550 annual fee is not waived

Final Thoughts

I have not seen reports of a Gold to Platinum upgrade offer but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were out there so let me know if you got one of those.  Check your accounts, emails and snail mail for the offers.  Sometimes they will show up in the Amex Offers section or just go to the cards section of American Express while logged in.

If you have already had the cards being offered before jump on these upgrade offers ASAP.  You really don’t have anything to lose and the minimum spend is spread out over 6 months which makes it easily reachable.  If you have never carried the cards before then you are usually better off grabbing the welcome offer instead.  Especially with the Reserve, if you are chasing status, since the current offer comes with 20,000 MQMs.

  1. I have no desire to ever pay a $550 annual fee credit card. However, the annual fee on my Delta Platinum is coming up in June and I have to admit that the idea of a year of the Reserve card for the same price as the Delta Platinum card after the statement credit is a little bit tempting. I suspect that’s the hook for that upgrade offer.

    • If you were going to keep the Platinum anyway I would take it. A lot better perks with the Reserve when flying Delta.

  2. My wife just accepted an offer received via a mailer to upgrade her Delta Blue card to Delta Platinum. Spend 2k over 6 months and get 50k in SkyMiles. Pay $250 annual fee but get a $200 statement credit.

  3. Received an offer to upgrade my Delta Gold business card to Platinum card for 50,000 miles and $200 statement credit with 3,000 spend over 6 months in the Amex offers section of my account.
