Virgin Atlantic/Delta Booking Fiasco Update…Good News!

Last week I shared the news that Delta bookings that were made with Virgin Atlantic miles had vanished from Delta’s site and app.  You could still look at your bookings when logged into Virgin’s site but not Delta’s.  And if you tried to add the flight back into your Delta account you would get an error. The issue only seemed to be happening with Delta since other Virgin Atlantic partners’ bookings were still showing up fine.  A call into Delta revealed that it was still showing as booked on their end, but what is said and what happens are often too different things.  I am happy to say that I have a first hand account that all is well and the tickets are still good.

Recent Report Of Flying Delta Without Issue

My buddy, who first alerted me to this issue, had a flight scheduled on Delta yesterday.  He was returning home from Amsterdam after a family emergency.  I will share his experience flying internationally later this week.  But he was nervous arriving at the airport since he was unable to do anything with his booking during the days leading up to the flight.

He received a notification to check in for the Delta flight 24 hours out from departure.  But of course, he was unable to do so.  An error would pop up every time he clicked the link to check in.  Even though the Delta agent had confirmed that his ticket was still active in their system he was uncomfortable about the whole thing.

However, upon arriving at the airport he was able to print his boarding pass without issue. It appears that this is really just a glitch in Delta’s system and that your bookings should be safe.

Final Thoughts

I thought it was interesting that the Delta phone agent gave him some flight info and said make sure you have this when you ask for your points.  So if you are having the same issue be sure to file a claim after your flight for some courtesy points.  It never hurts to ask!

It is good news that the tickets are still secure and that this isn’t a deeper issue with Delta and Virgin’s partnership. Hopefully Delta is able to fix this annoying glitch sometime soon so people are able to make changes to their bookings as needed.

  1. Thanks for the update! I haven’t called Delta or VS yet for my flights in Aug (though I did get an email from Delta that my nonstop flight now has a connection in DTW … so I guess that’s a good sign that ticket is still valid.) Hopefully this IT glitch will be fixed soon.

    • Yeah I think that is a good sign. And you get to hang out in one my favorite terminals in the US 🙂

I may be a bit biased though haha

      • I just checked my award flights this morning and can NOW SEE THEM on Delta website!!!!!!!!! 🙂 So relieved! I had 2 domestic roundtrips and 1 international roundtrip flights all on Delta metal booked through VS miles.

  2. I’m going through the same issue right now – had long ago booked flights to Italy in late July/early August using Virgin miles on Delta. Virgin shows the flights but Delta doesn’t. Unable to get through on the phone to ANYONE all week. Eventually able to get a Delta notification via messenger that my outbound flight was not surprisingly canceled, but it was nice to at least not be in limbo any more, as I had positioning flights, hotels, reservations that I need to cancel. I received no notification from anyone, no refund of points. I still can’t get in touch with Virgin to explore my options from here.

    • I would contact Virgin via Twitter DM or via text. They will take a few days but should get back to you and cancel and refund the points and taxes.
