Amex Hilton Business Retention Offer

Amex Hilton Business Retention Offer

We, at Miles to Memories, love ourselves some retention offers. Heck, we built a massive database of them because of it. Retention offers can be like a mini, or sometimes large, welcome offer on a card you already have and want to keep anyway. Or, they can be a reason to keep a card you would have otherwise closed, because the value they offer is just too much to pass up. Even no annual fee cards are getting in the mix these days! I can say that my Amex Hilton Business retention offer checks a lot of these boxes. Let’s take a look at the details.

My Hilton Business Offer Details

My wife grabbed the Amex Hilton Business card last year to take advantage of the increased welcome offer. Shortly after applying Amex added the $10 wireless credits, which was a nice bonus on top of the Hilton Honors points.  With the credits ending last month, and the annual fee posting, we had our minds set on closing the card. Freeing up Amex credit card spots was a part of my game plan to earn $15,000 in 2022 after all.  I had no intention of keeping the card, but Amex had other plans.

We fired up Amex chat and asked to close the card. Once the retention specialist came on the chat they said that there was an offer on the account and asked if we would like to hear it. We said yes, mostly out of curiosity. It never hurts to listen! I had expected to get some very pedestrian 15,000 Hilton Honors points after spending $2,000 type of offer, which wouldn’t even offset the annual fee. What came was quite a bit more surprising:

…because you are such a valued Card Member, I can issue you a loyalty statement credit of $225 as our way of saying thank you for keeping your account open.

Amex Hilton Business Retention Offer

Wowza! A $225 statement credit that requires no spend is aggressive in all of the right ways. Especially on a card with only a $95 annual fee.  That is Amex paying us $130 just to keep the card open. Or, as I put it in the title, money in the bank!

We accepted the offer and it will be $130 less that I need to acquire on my march to $15,000.  Even though the credit card slot could be more valuable by taking advantage of referral offers etc. we decided to take the easy win. My wife will be at only 2 credit cards with Amex after closing her EveryDay Preferred in a few weeks anyway. That made taking this offer a possibility.

Final Thoughts

I had all intentions of closing the card but my wife’s Amex Hilton Business retention offer was just too good to pass up. Getting $130 in profit to simply keep a card open is a deal I will take every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. I have added the offer to our massive retention offer database.

Be sure to check it out before reaching out for any retention offers with the banks. Also, be sure to let us know of any new offers you get in the comments so we can keep everything updated.

  1. Got offered $100 credit for The Hilton Honors Business card, not as good as your offer but at least it covers the fee for this year. I’ll use up my 10 PP visits and see what I can get next year. Thanks

    • They connected me once I said I wanted to cancel but you can ask for them as well. They work during normal business hours Mon-Fri

    • No, we only spent what was required for the welcome offer – didn’t go after the free night with this one.

    • Sounds like what we got on the Aspire a few years back. I still took it since I planned on keeping the card anyway.

  2. Pretty sweet. I closed the older of my two business platinum cards (the 150K offer was too good to turn down last year so I got a second) yesterday after Amex offered a $100 credit while still charging me the $695 annual fee.
