Cell Phone Holder Airline Hack
There was an awesome cell phone holder airline hack that made its way around social media a few years back, that in my opinion, was pure genius. It quickly became my favorite airline hack even though I didn’t use it all that often. I normally travel with a tablet to watch movies on when there is no in flight entertainment. This is in an effort to try to save my phone’s battery during the flight, plus I like having a bigger screen. Well, after a comedy of errors on my part when flying this weekend, of which I detail for you in Thursday’s podcast, I didn’t have a tablet with me. That left me coming back to my favorite airline hack to save the day.
How To Watch Movies On The Airplane With Your Phone
This airline hack assumes you have a phone case (I mean who doesn’t) and that the case doesn’t have a flip stand etc. built in. The only other thing you need is a piece of paper or something that won’t easily rip. A printed boarding pass works perfectly, yes I still do that most of the time.
This comes in handy since your phone isn’t big enough to rest on the tray table and lean it on the seat in front of you. It allows you to watch whatever you downloaded without needing to hold your phone or needing to look down the entire flight giving you a massive crick your neck.
Share Your Favorite Airline Hacks & Win A Gift Card
Do you ever use this airline hack? Is it your favorite? If not share some of the tips and tricks you use while flying. What are some tried and true ways you make your flight experience better?
I’ll pick one I like the best and email you a $10 Amazon gift card. I’ll give people until Friday to submit. A bonus $5 gift card for anyone that can name the movie in the picture first. Remember to use your email when posting (only I can see it) so I can send you the gift card.
Cell Phone Holder Airline Hack: Final Thoughts
The cell phone holder airline hack came in mighty handy this past weekend. Dusting it off once again has me reconsidering carrying a tablet on my travels. A little less weight and one less thing to worry about and charge. Well, at least when I am flying an airline with power outlets that is. Don’t worry Southwest, you’ll get there someday soon.

My favorite travel hack is finding free street parking near JFK or LGA then taking a cheap UBER to the terminal. I don’t have to pay exorbitant airport parking fees and I get straight to the terminal. For any trip 2+ days, it is cheaper and more convenient.
My second favorite is renting Teslas from Hertz in LAX. If I’m going to drive a full tank of gas at $6.00/gallon, the Tesla rental pays for itself as you can return it on 10% battery or charge for free at your hotel.
I miss when hotels used to bundle parking and you could sometimes work that with a cheap points stay. I know some others that do the street parking thing too though
Get a coffee drink just before leaving the club to board the plane. Then ask the flight attendant serving pre-departure beverages (assuming the crew you have will actually be doing that!) for a Bailey’s to put in it. That way, I can keep my drink during push back, taxi time and take-off because, for some strange reason, airlines treat the beverages they serve you differently from the drink you bring aboard. Of course, you can always bring a glass of wine or beer on board if you don’t mind drinking it out of one of those take-away lidded coffee cups.
Great tip Jim 🙂
My favorite hack is the secret button underneath the aisle armrest (on most planes) that allows you to raise it.
That is a nifty trick for sure.
I, like a lot of people, like a neck pillow on long flights but do not want to carry one so I found an inflatable one. I can just keep it deflated in my backpack until I need it and I can also make it as firm (or less so) as I want.
I also bring a couple of pillow cases to use to keep it softer.

Bingo! Well done Dan 🙂 – the email you used for the comment work for sending the gift card?
Winner winner chicken dinner 🙂
Yup. Thank you! 🙂
Just sent – let me know if there are any issues!
I guess my favorite hacks are 1, bring a water bottle that’s empty, then fill it up before security, and 2, bring a foreign power plug converter, since the US plugs won’t “stick” to the power outlet and fall out. The foreign plugs, particularly the UK plugs, don’t.
You mean after security for the water?
So you use the foreign plug converter even in the US cause it holds better?
There’s a travel device called a “snug plug” which is a plastic plug insert for loose wall outlets. I keep a couple in my dopp bag to make old loose Amtrak or hotel outlets work.
That is probably better than me just bending the metal a bit outwards lol
I carry a 1′ extension cord. I bent the prongs inward slightly so they don’t fall out.
I prefer my movie on an iPad. Bigger screen. I searched for a year before finding this guy. It’s called a fold and go. $16. It hangs easily from the back of a seat, tray table or converts to a stand that sits. I get people on every flight asking where to buy. Wish is could share a photo

That looks like a serious contraption
Hitman’s wife’s bodyguard
I have the flight attendant fill my water bottle, so I have water as soon as I arrive. (I also fill up in the lounge.) It saves a decent amount of money on multi-leg trips, and I don’t have to worry about spills.
Not sure I have ever seen a flight attendant fill a water bottle before, good tip. Now if you could get it filled with something other then water… 🙂
A Time to Kill
Great movie! 25 years too soon though lol

So close Ken….so very close 🙂
Samuel L. Jackson in “The Sunset Limited”.
Good guess but no – newer movie
T-mobile used to give you only 1 free hour of Gogo internet on planes. However… if you just entered someone else’s T-Mobile number they would give you another hour. Always got unlimited free internet for at least a year before they programmed it to make sure it was your number.
I had a buddy that did that with a co-workers number. Good times!
