Posts that Caught my Eye

Changing Club Carlson Reservations made with Last Night Free Promo are Pricey

Club Carlson has a no tolerance policy on changing awards booked with the Bonus Award Night. Grant messed up and was trying to change the dates. As much as I don’t want to admit it, I did the same thing on one reservation and booked it for June instead of August. Mistakes happen, but this one hurts.

American AAdvantage Ending Redemptions to Hawaii on Hawaiian Airlines

Ok so this really isn’t a huge deal, but it was nice to theoretically have an option of getting to Hawaii directly from Las Vegas. With that said, every time I have tried to book it, something has come up. Between American’s own flights and Alaska, there are still plenty of ways to get to Hawaii from the U.S.

The Credit Card Reconsideration Letter – What to Include & A Sample

Ok so this is one my posts, but I kind of published it at a bad time so many didn’t see it. Have you ever been denied for a card by reconsideration and simply given up? Myself and others have had success using written letters as a last resort. Here is a sample form letter. If you’ve already been hit with the inquiry, why not do whatever it takes to get approved?

Finding the REAL geographic center of the United States

Ok so this is totally geeky, but part of traveling is finding cool previously unknown places. Who knew that the geographic center of the U.S. was in South Dakota? Mount Rushmore and Badlands National Park move over. There is a new tourist hotspot moving in!

Travel Discovery

A place we actually did visit in Guatemala. The very active Volcan Pacaya outside of Guatemala city.

Semuc Champey – Guatemala’s Hidden Paradise

In an effort to educate, I thought I would share this with you. Semuc Champey is one of those place’s most people have never heard of, but it is supposedly stunningly beautiful. We planned to end our 2 months in Guatemala with a stop there and even took a van ride hours out into a small town in the middle of nowhere in preparation.

Unfortunately it was raining like crazy for days and we were told the roads could be unsafe. Since Shawn Reece was only 7 at the time, we decided it was best to avoid the dangerous situation. We were so close yet so far. I can’t wait to get back there some day. In the mean time I get great joy out of sharing its existence with you.

Deal Reminder

Finally, this is just a reminder that the most recent Staples free money and points promotion begins tomorrow. I visited my local store today to buy a router and they still haven’t stocked up on $200 cards. It has been months. Hopefully things are better in your neck of the woods!

Have a great night!

  1. Shawn,
Thanks for such great content! I’m so glad you put your focus on what is helpful in miles/points game and not your grammar. I couldn’t care fewer about if you get everything exactly right.

  2. “Fewer” options to Hawaii (not “less”) – because you can count the number of options. When something can’t be counted, then use “less”. For example: “I seem to have less free time now that I’m a father” or “put less mortar on that brick”.
